The Barista position offered by UW Medicine-Montlake Food and Nutrition is a per diem, day-shift role that plays a critical part in the day-to-day operations of a remote food service area, specifically an espresso bar. This role is designed for an individual who can independently manage a high-volume espresso location with proficiency. The Barista will be responsible for preparing and serving coffee and espresso beverages, handling food items, maintaining cleanliness of work areas and equipment, and processing cash payments. This position demands a combination of hospitality skills, food safety knowledge, and the ability to operate cooking and kitchen equipment efficiently.
As a Barista at UW Medicine-Montlake, you will engage with a diverse customer base, including patients, their families, visitors, and hospital staff, all within a health-focused environment. The role requires attention to detail, a strong commitment to service excellence, and adherence to health and safety standards. With a focus on fresh and nutritious offerings, the Barista contributes to the overall mission of UW Medicine by ensuring customers receive not only excellent beverages and food items but also a positive and welcoming experience.
Compensation for this temporary role ranges from $21.70 to $24.97 per hour, emphasizing the value placed on the skill and dedication required for this position. While the schedule is intermittent, it offers flexible working hours during the day shift, making this an attractive opportunity for individuals seeking part-time or per diem work in a dynamic healthcare setting. Employment is contingent upon possession or eligibility to obtain a Washington State Food Worker Card within two weeks of hire, a requirement that ensures compliance with food safety regulations.
Working at UW Medicine-Montlake comes with the advantage of being part of a renowned academic medical center known for its excellence in patient care and medical research. The campus itself provides numerous staff amenities and convenient access to public transportation, including the Sound Transit light rail.
