This job opportunity is for the position of Food Services Worker - Patient Services at Evanston Hospital in Evanston, IL, offered on a part-time basis during the first shift. The compensation starts at $17.00 per hour, with additional shift and weekend pay incentives. Candidates must be available to work rotating weekends and holidays. The role is essential within the hospital setting, focusing on specialized duties related to the management and fulfillment of patient diet orders both in hospital and long-term care environments.

The Food Services Worker acts as an important liaison between patients, the Food and Nutrition Services Department, and Nursing Services, ensuring patients’ dietary needs and preferences are accurately interpreted and met. This includes assisting with food and meal preparation, handling cash receipts and meal records, and supporting the management team with administrative tasks such as completing daily reports. Maintaining the highest standards of food production, sanitation, and kitchen safety practices is central to this role.

In addition to preparing quality meals according to a planned menu, the worker will verify daily transactions, ensure proper food storage, and uphold all food safety regulations. Responsibilities also include serving food on schedule, caring for kitchen equipment, and adding garnishments to enhance meal appeal. The role requires collaboration with the manager to accurately prepare menus and supervise food temperatures to guarantee patient satisfaction and compliance with dietary standards.

Food Services Workers must maintain a clean and organized workspace, thoroughly clean kitchen appliances, and adhere to uniform and safety policies. The position may involve physical demands like lifting, bending, and extended standing, as well as the use of personal protective equipment. Job Duties

  • Prepare quality food and baked goods according to a planned menu
  • Prepare a daily report that verifies transactions
  • Understand what is inclusive of a meal
  • Ensure storage of food in an accurate and sanitary manner
  • Serve food according to meal schedules, department policies and procedures
  • Use and care of kitchen equipment, especially knives
  • Timely preparation of a variety of food items, beverages, and add garnishments to ensure customer happiness and eye appeal
  • Coordinate and assist in major cleaning of refrigerators, freezers, and cooking and serving equipment
  • Adhere to all food safety regulations for sanitation, food handling, and storage
  • Adhere to the uniform policy
  • Connect with the Manager daily to understand and accurately prepare menu for the day
  • Supervise the food temperature requirements
  • Maintain a clean and organized work and storage area
  • Scrub and polish counters, clean and sanitize steam tables, and other equipment
  • Follow established procedures and standards for cleanliness to ensure a balanced and safe environment
  • Maintain garbage collection site and kitchen floor areas in a neat and sanitary fashion
  • Perform other duties as assigned including other areas in the kitchen
  • This role may have physical demands including lifting, bending, pushing, pulling, and/or extended walking and standing
  • May require uniforms and/or usage of personal protective equipment (PPE)
