Job Description
Target is a renowned retail corporation known for its commitment to delivering exceptional shopping experiences, offering a wide range of products including food, apparel, electronics, and home goods. As one of the leading discount retailers in the United States, Target operates large-format stores that provide a clean, organized, and welcoming environment for customers. The brand is built on values such as inclusivity, ethical conduct, and community engagement, fostering a culture that supports both its team members and the customers they serve. Target invests heavily in its workforce by providing competitive pay, extensive training, and a variety of benefits designed to support the overall well-being of its employees and their families.
The Food Service Team Leader role at Target is a dynamic and pivotal position within the Food & Beverage team, tasked with ensuring a seamless, fresh, and customer-focused experience in the store's food service areas. This role offers an hourly pay range starting at $20.50, with the potential to earn up to $34.85 per hour based on factors such as experience, certifications, and local labor market conditions. In addition to competitive pay, team members in this role are eligible for comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, 401(k) plans, paid sick leave, holidays, and vacation.
As a Food Service Team Leader, you will be deeply involved in the business fundamentals of food operations. Responsibilities include managing department sales trends, freshness, inventory accuracy, and ensuring food safety in compliance with company policies. You will lead a team of hourly team members, overseeing recruiting, training, coaching, and performance evaluations to build a strong, high-performing group. The role demands a strategic planner who can allocate daily and weekly workloads effectively to meet sales targets and guest engagement goals. Additionally, this position requires maintaining brand standards for associated food brands like Starbucks and Pizza Hut, ensuring team members meet all training and production specifications.
The Food Service Team Leader is also responsible for upholding stringent food safety protocols such as monitoring temperature-sensitive items, conducting routine cleanliness checks, and following inventory management best practices. Safety is a high priority, with leaders expected to promote a safe working environment by recognizing hazards, investigating incidents timely, and modeling a culture of safety compliance. This leadership role also embraces diversity and inclusivity, fostering an authentic and respectful workplace culture where diverse voices are valued.
Working at Target in this role means being adaptable to a fast-paced, physically active work environment with flexible scheduling that includes early mornings, evenings, overnights, weekends, holidays, and peak shopping times. Effective communication skills and a positive, guest-oriented attitude are essential, as is the capability to use technology such as handheld scanners and multi-frequency devices. The position also involves physical tasks such as lifting merchandise up to 44 pounds, climbing ladders, and working in varying temperature conditions, reflecting the hands-on nature of the job.
Overall, this position is well-suited for individuals seeking a meaningful leadership opportunity in retail food service, offering extensive training, personal development, and the chance to work in a team-oriented environment. Target emphasizes career growth and employee satisfaction, making it a desirable employer for those passionate about food service and guest engagement.
