Job Description

Target is a leading retail corporation known for its commitment to providing an exceptional shopping experience to guests across the United States. With a focus on innovation, diversity, and inclusion, Target has established itself as a dynamic workplace that values its team members and fosters growth at every career level. Working at Target means playing a vital role in delivering joy to everyday life by shopping experiences that are easy, inspiring, and friendly. The company invests heavily in its employees, offering comprehensive benefits and opportunities for advancement in a culture that prioritizes guest satisfaction and team development.

The Food and Beverage team at Target plays a crucial role in maintaining the store’s commitment to freshness, accurate pricing, and excellent guest interactions. This team manages food safety, replenishment, inventory accuracy, and presentation standards across all food-related departments, including partnerships with brands such as Starbucks and Pizza Hut. At Target, the Food Service Team Leader is an essential leadership role that combines operational expertise with team management to create a welcoming and efficient food service environment.

This Food Service Team Leader position offers a starting pay range of $20.25 to $22.25 per hour, with the potential to earn up to $34.45 per hour based on various factors like labor market conditions, education, experience, and certifications. In addition to competitive pay, Target provides eligible team members with health benefits including medical, vision, dental, and life insurance to support whole-person wellness. Additional benefits include 401(k) plans, employee discounts, short-term and long-term disability coverage, paid sick leave, national holidays, and paid vacation.

As a Food Service Team Leader, no two days are alike. Responsibilities span from delivering outstanding guest experiences to managing a team of hourly employees. This role requires expertise in food and beverage business fundamentals — such as tracking sales trends, ensuring inventory accuracy, promoting food safety standards, and executing pricing and promotional strategies. The leader plans daily and weekly workloads, coaches and trains team members, holds them accountable, and ensures compliance with all brand standards relevant to store food service operations.

In this role, you will be expected to uphold Target's guest experience commitments while fostering a culture of freshness and safety. You will monitor guest feedback and financial outcomes to align team behavior with store goals and celebrate successes. Leading a team means scheduling tasks to match guest traffic and business priorities, maintaining food safety standards, and validating team efforts against operational checklists. Ensuring in-stock accuracy, production quantity decisions, and staying informed about relevant food trends are also key components.

Beyond operational duties, the Food Service Team Leader participates in hiring and onboarding processes and promotes a culture of ethical conduct, safety, and inclusivity. This includes modeling safety behaviors, addressing hazards, supporting incident responses, and fostering an environment where diverse voices are respected and included. Leaders also demonstrate physical security practices, merchandise protection strategies, and may assume store-level leadership duties when needed.

Target looks for candidates who enjoy teamwork and interaction with guests, thrive in a fast-paced and physically active environment, and demonstrate flexibility with work schedules that may include nights, weekends, and holidays. While retail experience is preferred, it is not required. The company provides extensive training to help new leaders succeed with a focus on guest service fundamentals, food safety certification, and leadership skills. Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent, be at least 18 years old, and possess the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively while maintaining a welcoming attitude and strong communication skills.

Target is committed to supporting applicants with disabilities and will provide reasonable accommodations throughout the hiring process. The company promotes a culture where everyone feels valued and empowered to contribute to the overall success of the team and the guest experience. If you are passionate about leadership, food service, and helping guests enjoy every visit, this role offers an excellent opportunity to build a meaningful career with a respected retail leader.
