The position of Shift Supervisor at Sourdough & Co. is a hands-on leadership role essential to the smooth day-to-day functioning of the shop. Acting as the "floor captain," the Shift Supervisor takes charge when the owner is off-site, overseeing the floor operations and supporting the team during busy lunch and dinner rushes. Unlike management roles that involve administrative tasks such as hiring or scheduling, this role is entirely focused on leading the team on the floor, ensuring that every guest receives outstanding service and that the quality standards of food presentation and preparation are consistently upheld.
Shift Supervisors at Sourdough & Co. are expected to lead by example, maintaining a high level of energy, attention to detail, and a sense of urgency without compromising customer experience. Critical responsibilities include managing workflow during peak times, balancing ticket orders to keep wait times under 5 to 10 minutes, and ensuring each station runs efficiently. The Shift Supervisor plays a central role in fostering teamwork by actively monitoring the dining area and beverage stations, directing staff to support each other when certain stations become overwhelmed.
A strong emphasis is placed on maintaining upscale standards throughout the dining room and beverage stations, including keeping drinks stocked and presenting food that meets the premium quality customers expect. This role also entails overseeing closing and opening duties such as managing register drawer counts and preparing the shop for the next shift, thereby guaranteeing operational excellence around the clock. The position also offers the unique benefit of being fully eligible to participate in the employee tip pool, providing additional earning potential.
Ideal candidates will have at least 1 to 2 years of experience in fast-casual restaurants, delis, or upscale food service environments, preferably with leadership or shift lead experience. A proactive approach, excellent communication skills, and the ability to stay calm and focused under pressure are essential qualities. Candidates must either have or be willing to obtain a California Food Handler Certification within 30 days of hire and possess reliable availability, including weekends.
