The Supervisor Food Service role at Jefferson represents a dynamic leadership position within the food and nutrition services department at Albert Einstein Medical Center. The Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily departmental activities related to food service operations, promoting staff accountability, and ensuring patient, customer, and employee safety and satisfaction. This leadership role involves supervising staff, including Food Service Associates and Nutrition Care Associates, ensuring they deliver meals that are timely, accurate, appealing, and meet temperature standards suitable for patient care. The supervisor also manages sanitation procedures to guarantee a clean, safe, and sanitary environment aligning with federal, state, and local regulations. An essential part of the role is to monitor and maintain compliance with Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) standards, including proper handling, preparation, and serving of food. The Supervisor Food Service also oversees retail food service operations, ensuring cleanliness, compliance with departmental policies, and optimal customer service.

This position additionally entails direct responsibility for employee hiring, ongoing development, performance evaluations, and providing in-service training aimed at enhancing personnel skills and ensuring safety and satisfaction within the team. The Supervisor Food Service facilitates open communication and effective collaboration between multiple department managers and supervisors to maintain excellent patient service and support for staff members. A key component of the role is providing coaching and feedback through proven techniques such as the five to one feedback model, promoting continual improvement and professional growth among team members. The position is an evening shift role with regular full-time employment status at the Albert Einstein Medical Center located at 5501 Old York Road, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Candidates are expected to hold a High School Diploma or its equivalent and possess 2-3 years of experience in a food service environment, with previous supervisory experience being preferred. ServSafe Certification is mandatory for this role. Job Duties

  • interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson
  • insures adequate amounts of food supplies are ordered and available to produce planned menus
  • supervises sanitation activities to ensure a safe, clean and sanitary environment that is compliant with federal, state and local regulations
  • supervises and/or checks the Food Service Associates to ensure the assembly of timely, accurate, temperature appropriate and appealing meals for patients
  • supervises retail operations, including cleanliness, to ensure compliance with department policies and procedures and to ensure customer satisfaction
  • supervises the Nutrition Care Associates and Food Service Associates to ensure patient satisfaction with the quality, accuracy and temperature of meals, with the courtesy and service, and with the explanation they receive of their diet
  • ensures all HACCP standards for proper handling of leftover foods, holding of food products, serving food, preparation of food, and receiving of food products are being adhered to
  • initiates appropriate corrective action when food temperatures, taste, or appearance do not meet standards
  • ensures that all proper cash handling procedures and controls (cashier reports, audits, deposits, variance tracking, etc.) are being followed
  • maintains consistent communication with other department management and supervisors to ensure consistent, effective management, patient/customer service and support for staff
  • has responsibility for employee hiring, development, performance appraisals, in-service training and communication in order to ensure employee and patient safety and employee satisfaction
  • participates in monthly staff meetings
  • performs other duties as assigned
