The ability to perform tasks efficiently without direct supervision while maintaining compliance with institutional hygiene standards is fundamental to the position. Furthermore, the Cafeteria Helper may be required to complete necessary paperwork related to food transportation and service, demonstrating organizational skills.
Candidates for this position typically have experience or training related to large volume food preparation, whether in commercial kitchens, institutional food services, or school food programs. While experience is preferred, it is not mandatory as training and certifying, such as obtaining ServSafe Certification, can be arranged after employment. Candidates must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid California driver's license. The position also requires passing fingerprint and background checks, a recent negative tuberculosis test, and compliance with the district's insurance and DMV clearance requirements.
Physically, the role demands frequent lifting or moving of objects weighing up to 50 pounds, as well as prolonged standing or walking during work hours. Sensory abilities like near and far vision, depth perception, manual dexterity, and verbal communication are essential to perform job functions effectively. Job Requirements
- twelfth grade diploma or the equivalent
- responsible experience in quantity baking and/or cooking in a food service facility
- some experience preferred but not required
- possession of valid California drivers license
- ServSafe Certification may be obtained after employment but within required timeline
- insurability by the district's liability insurance carrier
- fingerprint and background clearance
- proof of recent negative tuberculosis test result
- Department of Motor Vehicles clearance
- must be 18 years of age or older

Job Duties
- assist in the preparation of vegetables and other foods for cooking
- store food and kitchen related items as needed
- scrape and wash dishes, utensils and trays
- clean serving counters, preparation areas, food containers and other equipment
- operate automatic dishwasher and wash trays, plates, utensils, and other serving equipment
- clean and store kitchen equipment
- assist in maintaining the food service facility in a safe, clean and sanitary condition including wiping down student tables
- heat, set up, serve food to students and faculty
