Job Description
Lubbock County is a government entity dedicated to providing essential community services and maintaining high standards across various departments, including corrections and rehabilitation centers. Known for its commitment to public service and safety, Lubbock County operates diverse programs that support residents and individuals under community supervision. This includes managed care and meal preparation services that are crucial in maintaining the health and well-being of residents in correctional and rehabilitation environments. The county adheres to strict state and departmental standards to ensure that all operational procedures meet regulatory and ethical guidelines, promoting a professional and secure working environment.
The position available is that of a Cook/Food Service Staff specializing in preparing nutritious meals for residents within the Lubbock County community programs. This role is fundamental in ensuring that all residents receive timely, well-prepared meals that meet individual dietary needs and follow approved meal schedules. As a Cook, you are expected to maintain high hygiene and sanitation standards in the kitchen, dining, and storage areas in compliance with health department regulations. Beyond meal preparation, responsibilities include supervising residents assigned to kitchen duties, managing food inventories, and coordinating with medical staff on special dietary needs. The role also demands excellent record-keeping skills, such as documenting meal counts and food temperatures, and the ability to maintain kitchen equipment and cleanliness. This position requires flexibility to work various hours and the capability to respond appropriately during emergencies, including administering CPR and First Aid. Employment is contingent on meeting educational requirements and obtaining necessary certifications, such as the food handler's certificate, within a designated time frame. The role also expects adherence to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Community Justice Assistance Division policies, codes of ethics, and the ability to manage stressful situations independently with professionalism and effective communication skills. The position includes travel within and outside the city for training and program development, underscoring the dynamic nature of the job. This is an at-will employment opportunity supported by state and federal grant funding, with compensation aligned to county standards. The work environment is typically indoors, with moderate noise, and involves physical demands such as standing, lifting, bending, and mobility within office and community settings. Lubbock County is an equal employment employer, committed to diversity and inclusion in its hiring practices.
