Job Description
Core-Mark is a leading distributor in the convenience retail industry, known for providing fresh and broadline solutions to convenience operators across the United States and Canada. As the largest and most comprehensive marketer of consumer goods in North America, Core-Mark offers a full range of products, programs, and innovative solutions designed to empower customers, employees, and communities alike. The company’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion is reflected in their equal employment opportunity policies and robust workplace culture. Core-Mark values a safe, inclusive, and respectful working environment that rewards and recognizes hard work and dedication. They provide competitive pay and benefits from day one, including health and wellness benefits, employee stock purchase plans, 401K employer matching, education assistance, paid time off, and more, fostering an environment where employees can thrive and grow professionally.
The Food Service Sales Manager position at Core-Mark is a vital role within the company’s foodservice division, which plays a critical part in supporting the convenience retail channel. This role focuses on developing and promoting Core-Mark’s food service initiatives by working closely with local sales groups to educate and advise customers on entering or improving their foodservice offerings. The ideal candidate is someone with an in-depth knowledge of food service trends, practices, and products who can serve as an ambassador for Core-Mark’s private brand sales, marketing efforts, and foodservice promotions. This position demands strong leadership abilities, excellent presentation skills both written and oral, and the capability to engage customers with enthusiasm and deep brand expertise.
Responsibilities include facilitating the rollout of new and existing food programs through training, demonstrations, menu and recipe development, and managing necessary documentation and inventory. The Food Service Sales Manager will provide in-field training and consultation, recommend growth strategies involving new product information, preparation methods, merchandising, and display equipment while advising on marketing, pricing, and profitability. Developing and maintaining positive relationships with suppliers, internal teams, and customers is essential for success in this role. Collaboration with the purchasing department helps manage inventory and demand forecasting to support key programs. The position also requires extensive travel—up to 75% of the time—covering a defined territory that includes Albany NY, Boston MA, Providence RI, and Hartford CT. Being based in any of these cities is acceptable, provided the candidate is flexible with travel and site visits.
Furthermore, the Food Service Sales Manager will actively participate in regional and national trade shows, manage food and beverage demonstrations, and contribute to sales meetings aimed at driving product sell-through and executing business plans aligned with Core-Mark’s growth objectives. The role also involves working closely with the Corporate Foodservice Strategy and Growth team to optimize the proprietary brand portfolio by providing timely feedback on performance. This position is ideal for someone detail-oriented, solution-minded, with good organizational skills and a solid understanding of food safety standards like HACCP and Serv-Safe certification. A passion for the foodservice industry combined with a strong customer-facing sales background will enable the successful candidate to make a significant impact in this dynamic and growing segment of Core-Mark’s business.
