Job Description
Nelson University (formerly Southwestern Assemblies of God University) is a vibrant, private Christian university located just 30 minutes south of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex in Waxahachie, Texas. Established in 1927, the university has a rich legacy of providing quality education grounded in evangelical Christian values and Biblical truth. Nelson University offers more than 70 degree programs—including associate, bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees—available both on-campus and online, making it a flexible and forward-thinking institution committed to equipping students for success in their careers and life callings.
At its core, Nelson University is dedicated to creating a Spirit-empowered community where faculty, staff, and students live and work with purpose, integrity, and service. The institution’s mission encompasses spiritual, academic, professional, and cross-cultural preparation, aiming to develop well-rounded individuals equipped for their God-given careers and callings. This mission fosters a welcoming environment defined by Christian hospitality, character formation, and a high standard of academic and professional excellence.
The open position is for a part-time Food Service Lead located in Arizona, tailored for motivated, service-oriented individuals passionate about culinary excellence and community service. This role involves overseeing daily food preparation, maintaining kitchen cleanliness and safety, and serving students and staff with care and respect. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with the Food Service Director on menu planning and special events, ensuring that food quality, safety, and sanitation standards are consistently met. Additionally, this position includes supervising kitchen staff and student workers, managing inventory and rotation, minimizing waste, and fostering a positive kitchen culture aligned with Christian values.
Nelson University values candidates who demonstrate faith, service, and lifestyle commitment reflective of the institution’s core values and doctrinal statements. Candidates should possess a minimum of two years of experience in commercial or institutional food service and exhibit strong leadership and communication skills. The university emphasizes a workplace culture where employees contribute to a respectful and inclusive Christian environment, supporting the mission to empower students and enhance their educational experience.
This part-time position requires flexibility, including availability for evenings and weekends, and is subject to a background check. Preferred certification such as ServSafe is beneficial but not mandatory. Nelson University is committed to equal employment opportunities and embraces diversity while reserving the right to exercise religious preference consistent with its Christian mission. Joining Nelson University means becoming part of a community dedicated to shaping the future by empowering students to fulfill their potential through holistic education and dedicated support.
