Job Description

Georgia Regional RHS and East Central Regional Hospital (ECRH) are reputable healthcare facilities dedicated to providing excellent medical and supportive services to their communities. With a focus on delivering quality care, these institutions emphasize not only clinical excellence but also the importance of ancillary services such as dietary and food service operations, which are vital for patient well-being and recovery. Georgia Regional RHS and ECRH operate comprehensive health services that include inpatient and outpatient care, mental health services, and specialized treatment programs. The Dietary Services department within these facilities plays a crucial role in ensuring that patients and staff receive nutritious, safe, and properly prepared meals according to health standards and specific dietary requirements.

The Food Service Operation Worker position at Georgia Regional RHS and ECRH is an integral role within the Dietary Services team. This full-time position involves preparing, cooking, and serving large quantities of food to meet the hospital’s dietary guidelines and patient needs. The role requires a commitment to maintaining high standards of sanitation and cleanliness to minimize the risk of foodborne infections, which is critical in a healthcare environment. Individuals in this role must be productive, able to complete assigned tasks within reasonable timeframes, and maintain quality control in food preparation and service. The work schedule is a forty-hour week, with shifts scheduled between Sunday and Saturday, including weekend rotations where employees work two weekends and have one off. The department operates from 5 AM to 7 PM every day of the year, requiring staff availability within this range based on scheduled shifts.

Food Service Operation Workers at Georgia Regional RHS and ECRH are responsible for processing, preparing, and cooking a variety of foods tailored to regular and modified diets, ensuring patients receive meals suited to their medical requirements. This includes operating kitchen machinery, handling sharp utensils, and performing physical tasks such as bending, stooping, and lifting food items weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted and 75 pounds with assistance. The role also involves setting up serving lines, portioning food into trays or containers, and repetitively performing motions necessary for consistent food service.

Physical stamina is essential as the job demands walking or standing for approximately 80 percent of the workday, often on wet or slippery floors where slip-resistant footwear is mandatory. Additional duties include thorough cleaning and sanitizing of equipment, utensils, fixtures, floors, and vehicles, as well as operating dish machines and managing trash removal. The position may also require the operation of vehicles or acting as a safety spotter for vehicle movement within the facility. Handling food carts and climbing in and out of vehicles are part of daily tasks. Furthermore, workers may be responsible for operating cash registers during meal service.

This Food Service Operation Worker role is vital to supporting the overall mission of Georgia Regional RHS and ECRH by ensuring that nutritional services run smoothly and meet regulatory and hospital standards. The job is physically demanding yet rewarding for those who take pride in contributing to patient care through efficient food service and safety. The position is located in-person within the hospital facilities and offers multiple shifts to accommodate various scheduling needs. Prospective candidates should be prepared for shift work that requires flexibility and dedication to supporting healthcare through dietary excellence.
