The Food Service Operation Worker position within the Dietary Services department is a vital role responsible for preparing, cooking, and serving food in large quantities while maintaining strict sanitation standards. This position requires the ability to operate kitchen equipment safely, handle various food preparation tasks, and ensure that dietary needs of patients are met, including regular and modified diets. The role also demands physical stamina as it includes bending, lifting, standing for prolonged periods, and working in potentially slippery environments. The worker will be involved in cleaning duties to maintain a hygienic workspace as well as operating vehicles and cash registers as needed. Work schedules are structured to cover shifts from early morning to evening, including weekends, enabling continuous service provision to patients. The position requires a strong commitment to productivity, efficiency, and teamwork to fulfill its role effectively.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • experience in food service or related field preferred
  • ability to stand and walk for 80 percent of the workday
  • ability to lift and carry food items up to 40 pounds unassisted and 75 pounds with assistance
  • availability to work a forty-hour week with rotating weekday shifts and every other weekend
  • willingness to work within scheduled department hours of 5 AM to 7 PM
  • ability to maintain strict sanitation and safety standards
  • ability to operate kitchen and cleaning equipment safely

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • experience in food preparation or service is preferred
  • knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices
  • ability to operate kitchen equipment safely
  • physical ability to lift up to 40 lbs unassisted and 75 lbs with assistance
  • good communication and teamwork skills

Job Duties

  • Prepares, cooks, and serves food in large quantities
  • maintains sanitation and cleanliness to reduce food infection risk
  • processes, prepares, and cooks a variety of food into various consistencies and portion sizes for regular and modified diets
  • operates electrical and mechanical kitchen equipment with safety
  • sets up serving line and serves food onto trays for individuals
  • performs cleaning and sanitizing of all equipment, utensils, fixtures, floors, and vehicles
  • operates vehicles and acts as vehicle safety spotter
  • operates cash register
