Committed to excellence and equity in education, MPS provides a supportive environment for both students and staff to thrive. The district values professional development and advancement, offering opportunities for training and growth to help employees build rewarding careers within the school system. Milwaukee Public Schools is dedicated to nurturing a healthy and productive workplace while serving the nutritional needs of its students through quality food service programs.

This on-the-job training opportunity allows the trainee to work closely with experienced food service managers to learn operational procedures, food preparation standards, inventory control, staff supervision, and compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. The role requires active engagement in managing daily food service activities to ensure that nutritious and high-quality meals are served efficiently to students and school staff. This position involves travel between school kitchen locations as needed and provides no night, weekend, or holiday shifts, offering a stable work-life balance.

The hourly wage for this training position ranges from $18.83 to $24.91, reflecting Milwaukee Public Schools' commitment to competitive compensation. Trainees will develop skills in leadership, customer service, food safety, and inventory management, making this an excellent career development pathway within the school district's food service department. The role demands physical stamina as it involves standing, walking, and occasional lifting of up to 35 pounds, with exposure to varying temperature and humidity conditions typical of a commercial kitchen environment.

Candidates interested in applying must attach a current resume or clearly detail work experience on the application. The selection process includes an evaluation of education and experience, as well as written or oral assessments where applicable. Successful candidates will be subject to a criminal background check, drug and alcohol testing, and credential verification. MPS encourages veterans to apply and requests relevant documentation if applicable. Equal employment opportunity is paramount, and MPS ensures non-discriminatory hiring practices in line with the Americans with Disabilities Act and other civil rights laws.

This role offers a comprehensive training experience in school food service management, emphasizing quality, compliance, and customer-focused service. Food Service Manager Trainees will be involved in supervising food service assistants, managing inventory through online systems, maintaining cleanliness and food safety standards, and supporting the overall strategic goals of Milwaukee Public Schools.
