Job Duties

  • Plan balanced meals and snacks that meet USDA or state child nutrition guidelines
  • Accommodate food allergies, dietary restrictions, and cultural preferences
  • Maintain accurate menu records and nutritional documentation
  • Oversee or participate in the preparation and serving of meals
  • Ensure proper portion sizes appropriate for children
  • Maintain food quality, freshness, and presentation
  • Enforce food safety standards in line with USDA and local health regulations
  • Monitor kitchen cleanliness and sanitation practices
  • Ensure safe food storage, handling, and temperature control
  • Maintain compliance with programs like CACFP if applicable
  • Train and supervise kitchen staff or food service workers
  • Schedule shifts and assign daily tasks
  • Promote teamwork and adherence to safety procedures
  • Order food and kitchen supplies within budget guidelines
  • Track inventory and reduce waste
  • Maintain vendor relationships
  • Keep records of meals served, food purchases, and inspections
  • Prepare reports for licensing agencies or program audits
