The role of Food Service Manager at Hy-Vee is a crucial leadership position within the Market Grille department. Job Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One year of related or similar experience
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen
  • Ability to perform medium physical work including lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to perform physical activities such as climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions
  • Ability to adhere to food safety and sanitation requirements
  • Must adhere to company policies and store guidelines
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be punctual and reliable

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern and patience in all customer interactions and treating customers as the most important people in the store
  • Smiles and greets customers in a friendly manner, whether the encounter takes place in the employee’s designated department or elsewhere in the store
  • Makes an effort to learn customers’ names and to address them by name whenever possible
  • Assists customers by escorting them to products, securing products out of reach, loading or unloading heavy items, making note of and passing along customer suggestions or requests
  • Answers the telephone promptly and provides friendly, helpful service including taking product orders
  • Works with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment
  • Reviews daily production list with department employees and assigns tasks for completion
  • Ensures food display case product is rotated and replenished
  • Scans the kitchen area for cleanliness, repairs, and safety issues and assigns tasks to kitchen staff
  • Ensures proper staffing in kitchen department to handle customer needs
  • Oversees food quality and presentation for all relevant departments
  • Oversees inventory management
  • Works with chefs to plan menus and purchase supplies
  • Estimates food and beverage costs
  • Supervises portion control to minimize waste
  • Performs frequent quality checks
  • Sets department standards for service and profitability
  • Analyzes sales and trends, prepares ad projections and writes ads
  • Coordinates marketing and special functions
  • Monitors health, safety, and liquor regulation compliance
  • Investigates and resolves food quality and service complaints
  • Arranges for maintenance and repair of equipment
  • Selects or creates menu items and sets prices based on cost analysis
  • Directs hiring, training, and scheduling
  • Enforces sanitary practices and food safety guidelines
  • Handles customer issues professionally
  • Maintains clean and neat work areas
  • Adheres to company policies and guidelines
  • Reports to work on time and as scheduled
  • Assumes supervisory duties in managers' absence
  • Assists in other store areas as needed
  • Ensures competitive pricing
  • Performs other related duties and special projects as required
