Job Description

The Lummi Indian Business Council (LIBC) is a sovereign tribal government representing the Lummi Nation in the Pacific Northwest. The council oversees various enterprises and departments dedicated to promoting economic development, cultural preservation, and community welfare for the Lummi people. Among its many ventures is the management of food service operations under its umbrella, specifically the Lummi Bay Markets — retail establishments focused on delivering quality food and beverage services to the community. Recognized for its commitment to tribal sovereignty and sustainable business practices, the LIBC supports these enterprises to maximize long-term positive outcomes for the Lummi Nation and its members. These food service outlets are integral to the local economy, providing employment, locally sourced products, and customer-focused service that reflects the values and heritage of the tribe. As a dynamic organization with many moving parts, the LIBC emphasizes teamwork, respect, and integrity to maintain high standards across all business units.

The Food Service Manager (FSM) position at Lummi Bay Markets is a vital leadership role reporting directly to the Senior Director of Food and Beverage at LIBC. This full-time role encompasses the overall management and operation of the food and beverage services across the stores within the markets. The FSM is charged with ensuring smooth daily operations that meet customer expectations while maintaining compliance with all health, safety, and operational regulations. The scope of this position includes managing the kitchen and beverage equipment, supervising and mentoring food service staff, enforcing training standards, and cultivating strong vendor relationships to secure quality supplies. The FSM also plays a crucial role in financial management by overseeing inventory, purchasing, pricing, and budgeting to promote profitability and sustainability.

In addition to operational duties, the FSM is responsible for developing effective strategies for growth and efficiency alongside the Director of Food and Beverage. This entails implementing training programs, participating in meetings and conferences to stay current with industry trends, and ensuring that all food items meet quality standards and regulatory requirements. Personnel management is a key component of the role, including recruiting, scheduling, performance evaluations, and promoting a safe, respectful work environment. The FSM must demonstrate exemplary communication skills, balancing multiple tasks and priorities while engaging with employees at all levels and addressing customer feedback promptly and professionally.

Candidates for this position should possess strong knowledge of food service best practices, equipment operation, and customer service excellence. Computer literacy with common office software and point-of-sale systems is essential for handling administrative and sales functions efficiently. Physical demands include the ability to lift up to 40 pounds and perform duties requiring prolonged standing and mobility within the facilities. The FSM position requires adherence to strict tribal policies, including background checks and drug and alcohol testing to ensure safety and compliance.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute positively to a community-focused business governed by tribal values and dedicated to economic empowerment. The Food Service Manager will be a leader who drives operational excellence, fosters professional development among staff, and champions customer satisfaction in a culturally respectful environment. With competitive working hours and clear opportunities for advancement within the Lummi Indian Business Council enterprises, this position is ideal for motivated individuals passionate about food service management and community engagement. The salary and benefits package will be discussed upon application, reflecting the importance of this role within the LIBC organization.
