Job Description
Hy-Vee is a prominent employee-owned supermarket chain known for its community-oriented approach and commitment to customer satisfaction. Founded in 1930, Hy-Vee has grown to become a leader in the grocery retail industry with a presence across multiple states in the US. The company prides itself on its core value of providing "a helpful smile in every aisle," reflecting its dedication to superior customer service and a positive shopping experience. Hy-Vee operates a wide range of services including traditional grocery retail, health and wellness, pharmacy, and food service departments. This multifaceted approach allows Hy-Vee to cater to diverse customer needs while maintaining a focus on quality, innovation, and community engagement. The company cultivates a work environment that encourages employee growth, respect, and teamwork, recognizing that its people are the key to delivering exceptional service. The Food Service Manager position is housed within the Market Grille department, a critical part of Hy-Vee's commitment to offering fresh, high-quality food products and dining experiences to customers. This role is exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), indicating that it is a salaried position with managerial responsibilities. The role entails direct oversight and leadership within several food service departments, including Chinese, Italian, Restaurant, and Kitchen sections. The Food Service Manager ensures the delivery of prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service, aligning with Hy-Vee’s promise to treat customers as the most important individuals in the store. The manager is tasked with assisting food service department managers to present innovative and competitively priced food products while maintaining the freshest quality. This position requires a confident leader capable of fostering a growth mindset, professionalism, partnership, results orientation, and a strong focus on customer satisfaction. The Food Service Manager acts as a direct report to district store directors and various store managers, and also supervises a wide team including department managers, chefs, service managers, and food service staff. They are responsible for day-to-day operations such as reviewing production lists, assigning tasks, ensuring proper staff levels, overseeing food quality and presentation, inventory management, and collaborating on menu planning and supply purchasing. The manager also handles performance monitoring to maintain portion control, minimize waste, and uphold high standards of sanitation, safety, and customer service. Marketing and sales analysis form an additional part of the role, with the manager preparing sales projections, writing ads, and coordinating special functions to boost restaurant operations. The position demands a strategic thinker capable of enforcing health regulations, resolving customer complaints, and maintaining equipment and facility upkeep. Secondary responsibilities include supervisory duties in the absence of department managers, competitive pricing assessments, and other store-related tasks. Considering the physical demands, the role requires medium work capabilities with specific abilities in lifting, balancing, climbing, and other physical activities necessary to manage the dynamic food service environment. The Food Service Manager is expected to embody hospitality excellence and exhibit strong problem-solving skills under variable conditions. Commitment to sanitation, personal hygiene, and adherence to company policies is mandatory. This position promises a highly engaging and fast-paced work environment where the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in enhancing the customer dining experience and ensuring operational excellence at one of the leading food service departments within Hy-Vee.
