Job Description

TravelCenters of America (TA) is a leading company in the retail and travel service industry, operating a comprehensive network of travel centers across the United States. For over 50 years, TA has been a trusted name among professional truck drivers and motorists, providing essential services including fuel, food, truck maintenance, and convenience retail offerings. The company is currently undergoing a significant transformation aimed at modernizing its facilities and expanding its footprint, including upgrades to over 100 TA, Petro, and TA Express locations nationwide. This revitalization is supported by adopting advanced technology and introducing innovative sustainability and alternative energy initiatives that address contemporary demands and environmental concerns.

The work environment at TA is dynamic and collaborative, drawing on the contributions of every team member to drive the company’s growth and future success. With corporate headquarters in Westlake, Ohio, TA fosters an inclusive culture that values diverse perspectives and encourages ideas that propel innovation. Employees at TA are part of a company committed to equal opportunity and creating a welcoming environment for all individuals regardless of background or identity.

The role of Food Service Specialist Lead at TravelCenters of America plays a pivotal part in the success of TA’s restaurant operations. This leadership position involves providing strategic direction, coaching, and performance management to a team of Food Service Specialists who oversee deli, Quick Service Restaurant (QSR), and Full Service Restaurant (FSR) concepts across assigned regions. The Food Service Specialist Lead is responsible for aligning the food service team’s activities with company goals, maintaining strong brand integrity, and driving robust financial and operational outcomes.

This role requires an individual who can establish a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and safety within the team. Acting as a primary leader, the Food Service Specialist Lead ensures consistent execution of food programs by focusing on sales growth, margin improvement, labor efficiency, inventory control, and overall EBITDA performance. The role involves close partnerships with franchise brand partners, marketing, operations, and field leadership to deliver cohesive and effective operational strategies.

In addition to leadership responsibilities, the Food Service Specialist Lead is tasked with safeguarding brand standards through third-party audits and championing new brand initiatives, promotions, and operational rollouts. The role demands frequent travel—approximately 80%—to provide field support, conduct coaching sessions, oversee new restaurant openings, and address complex operational challenges.

Exceptional communication skills are essential for this role, as the Food Service Specialist Lead serves as a liaison between the food service team and cross-functional departments such as loss prevention, marketing, and category management. The position also emphasizes the promotion of an inclusive culture that supports safe work practices and regulatory compliance.

Ideal candidates for this position will hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, with at least five years of leadership within restaurant operations, food service, marketing, or multi-unit operations. The ability to navigate financial metrics and coach teams on Profit and Loss drivers distinguishes top performers in this role. Certification in Servsafe or the ability to obtain it is required to ensure compliance with food safety standards.

Overall, the Food Service Specialist Lead at TravelCenters of America is a strategic and hands-on leader committed to delivering excellent food service experiences while driving continuous improvement and operational excellence throughout the company's travel center network.
