Job Description

Banner Estrella Medical Center is a prominent healthcare facility located in Phoenix, Arizona. As a part of Banner Health, a certified Great Place To Work, this medical center boasts a 353-bed acute care hospital that provides a wide range of healthcare services for the rapidly expanding communities of west Phoenix. Opened in 2005, Banner Estrella Medical Center is an innovative, fully electronic hospital equipped with cutting-edge technology such as electronic medical records, computerized physician order entry, digital radiography, and advanced ICU monitoring systems. This focus on technology and patient care has earned the hospital recognition as one of the "ten most innovative hospitals in the country" by Newsweek Magazine, and it has been listed among the best hospitals in Phoenix by U.S. News and World Report.

The hospital environment is designed to create a soothing and healing atmosphere for patients and their families. In addition to its medical services, Banner Estrella incorporates holistic therapies, including pet therapy, aromatherapy, spiritual care, and Reiki Therapy to support patient well-being.

This specific role is a leadership position within the Culinary & Nutrition department at Banner Estrella Medical Center. The position involves overseeing the culinary service staff, ensuring the delivery of high-quality food services, regulatory compliance, and exceptional customer service. The candidate will independently lead daily culinary operations, encompassing various roles within the culinary team. Responsibilities include maintaining food safety standards according to licensing agency requirements, resolving customer service issues, training staff to enhance service delivery, managing inventory and food production within budgetary guidelines, and participating in department meetings and training sessions.

The role demands a hands-on leader who not only supervises but also actively works alongside team members in food preparation and service. The candidate must demonstrate excellent judgment in decision-making and communication, interacting professionally with patients, physicians, vendors, employees, and management alike. Shift work includes varied hours with a full-time schedule requiring availability during weekend and holiday shifts, for which a weekend shift differential is offered.

Ideal candidates will have prior experience leading shifts in a culinary setting, solid cooking skills, and a strong commitment to customer service. This role plays a critical part in the operational success of the culinary department, ensuring that all food service activities align with the hospital’s high standards for quality, safety, and patient satisfaction. This position offers an opportunity to be part of a leading healthcare organization known for both innovation and compassionate patient care.
