Reporting directly to the Sous Chef, this role plays a critical part in ensuring operational excellence in the back-of-house kitchen environment. The Jr Sous Chef is responsible for preparing the restaurant or kitchen location for daily operations, managing staff and food quality, enforcing strict safety and hygiene standards, and serving as a key leader who supports the broader culinary team. This position demands a blend of leadership, organization, culinary expertise, and interpersonal skills. From overseeing daily prep work and coordinating with kitchen staff to responding adeptly to guest feedback and maintaining routine cleaning protocols, the Jr Sous Chef ensures that the culinary operations run smoothly and meet SSA's high standards. \n\nIn addition to operational responsibilities, this role requires active engagement in the training, coaching, and development of team members, emphasizing team building and consistent performance management. The candidate will work closely with supervisors and managers to ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, maintaining an environment that is safe, organized, and conducive to high-quality food production. The role also involves hands-on tasks such as managing inventory, performing equipment inspections and maintenance, and filling in wherever necessary to guarantee flawless service delivery. Job Duties
- Live out 452 Hospitality by delivering warm, welcoming, and memorable experiences for every guest and client
- Ensure restaurant/location is adequately prepped and staffed (BOH) for daily operation
- Oversight of location kitchen duties, ensuring quickservice, food service, safety and quality, availability, merchandising, and guest service standards are all met and exceeded
- Oversight of safety logs, including food temperatures, rotation, and waste
- Ensure proper uniform, hygiene, handwashing, and glove use with staff
- Support SSAfety training with knife handling skills, ensuring all direct reports display proper use of knives and slicers
- Create daily prep and item lists, delegating to employees as necessary
- Actively help to support operations and fill holes as necessary to ensure smooth service
- Maintain a checklist of routine or daily cleaning tasks and ongoing projects or menu planning
- Assist the Sous Chef in assigning associates to duties, coaching through projects, daily tasks and guest interaction
- Actively and efficiently respond to guest and client feedback, with a report to the operations manager to ensure that any potential complaints are mitigated against further occurrence
- Oversee personnel duties including training new employees and issuing performance reviews, managing and issuing progressive documentation with oversight from operations manager, reporting employee attendance and hour discrepancies to payroll, and overseeing break and rest break management for BOH employees
- Inspect equipment and perform routine maintenance and cleaning as necessary
- Assist the team to ensure all tasks are completed in a timely manner
- Communicate with the Sous Chef and Food Service Operations Manager(s) regarding any issues with daily service or quality
- Work directly with restaurant supervisor(s) to ensure locations operate to standard
- Remain knowledgeable of and supervise in accordance with all applicable local, state, and federal laws
- Perform other tasks as deemed necessary
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment
- Uphold and demonstrate a complete understanding of company policies and procedures
