This position is for a Food Service Host/Hostess who will play a pivotal role in delivering dietary services within patient care areas while upholding high-quality standards. The Food Service Host/Hostess is responsible for serving and storing food in accordance with specific menu and dietary procedures. This includes ensuring that all food handling and preparation meet safety and nutritional guidelines while maintaining cleanliness and sanitation of all equipment and work areas. The role also involves providing exceptional customer service by assisting patients with their meals, explaining dietary requirements, and fulfilling tray requests from patients, visitors, and staff members.

Furthermore, the Food Service Host/Hostess supports the communication between dietary services and nursing staff to verify meal accuracy and completeness. They take charge of ordering, stocking, and rotating food and supplies, carefully managing inventory to meet set par levels while keeping precise refrigeration logs. Safety and infection control standards are imperative in this role to ensure a healthy and secure environment for patients and staff alike. Training and adherence to service standards such as AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, and Thank You) are essential to maintaining a high caliber of service. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent or currently enrolled in high school
  • No prior experience required
  • Ability to follow dietary and safety protocols
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours
  • Physical capability to stand for extended periods
  • Willingness to learn and adhere to hospital policies and procedures

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Provide excellent customer service by assisting patients with meals, explaining diets, delivering trays, and responding to requests
  • Ensure patient and workplace safety, follow infection control and food safety standards, and maintain cleanliness of kitchens and pantries
  • Communicate with nursing staff regarding patient care needs and verify tray accuracy and completeness
  • Order, stock, and rotate food and supplies, maintain refrigeration logs, and manage inventory according to established par levels
  • Support training, follow service standards (AIDET), and perform other unit-specific duties as assigned
