Wilton Manor Elementary is currently seeking to hire a Food Service General Worker to join their Food and Nutrition Services team. This is a crucial role within the school that involves the preparation and service of nutritionally balanced and reimbursable meals to students and staff. The position supports the school’s mission to provide meals that meet approved nutritional standards and ensures that meal services are delivered on time and maintain high-quality food standards. Employment is classified as nonexempt, with a pay grade of SF1121, offering an hourly rate of $15.84 and a schedule of 5.5 hours per day as outlined in the 192A Day Calendar. New hires will start at the minimum of the assigned salary range.
The Food Service General Worker serves as an essential member of the school’s nutrition team, responsible for completing a wide range of tasks from food preparation and service to maintaining cleanliness and safety standards in the kitchen. This role requires adherence to state-approved training and guidelines related to food safety, nutrition, and sanitation, including compliance with Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP). The worker assists with inventory management, operates food service equipment safely, and ensures proper storage of supplies. Additionally, this position involves customer service functions that necessitate clear communication and professionalism when interacting with students, staff, parents, and other members of the school community.
Duties also encompass the operation of point-of-sale systems in alignment with federal requirements, transportation of food items to satellite sites using refrigerated trucks or vans, and participation in ongoing training to enhance skills and knowledge. Physical demands include medium work requiring the exertion of up to 50 pounds of force occasionally. Job Requirements
- Prior food service or cashier work experience
- ability to follow directions, read, and communicate in English
- ability to effectively communicate with school personnel
- computer skills as required
- high school diploma or GED preferred
- valid Florida driver’s license preferred

- ability to perform lifting up to 30 pounds

Job Duties
- Follow daily work schedules for food production, service, and cleaning
- participate in ongoing state-approved training and educational initiatives
- demonstrate and promote exceptional customer service using good judgment and professionalism
- operate point-of-sale systems according to federal guidelines
- adhere to food safety rules, departmental procedures, and HACCP standards
- perform kitchen duties including pre-preparation, food production, service, clean-up, and check-in orders
- assist in meal service ensuring food quality and approved meal pattern requirements
- assist with ordering, storage, and inventory of supplies and food items
- follow written recipes and record production details on worksheets
- operate food service equipment safely
- maintain cleanliness by removing and disposing of garbage
- ensure compliance with sanitation and personal hygiene standards
- perform cleaning of food service equipment and facilities
- drive vans to satellite sites for deliveries, gas, and cleaning
- drive refrigerated/freezer trucks between sites
- promote equal employment and non-discrimination policies
- participate in training programs to enhance skills
- review literature and technical sources related to job responsibilities
