Job Description

Royal Palm Elementary is an integral part of the educational community in Lauderhill, Florida, committed to fostering a positive and nurturing environment for students, staff, and families. This elementary school serves a diverse student population, providing foundational learning experiences that emphasize academic excellence, social development, and healthy living. The institution is part of The School Board of Broward County, Florida, an organization dedicated to delivering quality education and essential services to meet the needs of its students. Known for its welcoming atmosphere and commitment to nurturing each learner's potential, Royal Palm Elementary supports the school's mission through collaborative efforts among educators, staff, students, and the community. The school embraces best practices and standards aligned with state education policies, focusing on holistic development, including nutrition that supports student health and academic success.

The Food Service General Worker position at Royal Palm Elementary plays a critical role in supporting the school’s nutrition program by preparing and serving meals that comply with federal and state guidelines. This is a nonexempt, part-time role offering 4.5 hours per workday at an hourly rate of $15.84, classified under pay grade SF1121. The worker will contribute directly to the nutritional wellbeing of students by ensuring that food production meets established quality standards within time constraints, reflecting the principles of safety, sanitation, and customer service. This role requires the preparation and service of reimbursable meals that are nutritionally adequate, following approved meal patterns, and strict food safety regulations such as HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points).

The general worker undertakes various essential duties including food preparation, cooking, cleaning, and inventory management, as well as the operation of food service equipment and point-of-sale systems. The position also involves maintaining strict hygiene standards and follows departmental procedures to ensure a safe and sanitary kitchen environment. Additional responsibilities may include delivering meals to satellite sites using vans or refrigerated trucks, thus requiring some driving within assigned tasks. This role is pivotal in creating a positive dining experience for students and school staff by delivering high-quality meals efficiently and courteously.

In addition to technical skills, the role emphasizes customer service and effective communication with students, teachers, administrators, and Food and Nutrition Services personnel. The worker will participate in ongoing training programs such as Foundations of School Food Service, Nutrition, Quantity Cooking, and Sanitation classes to enhance skills and stay informed about best practices. The position also requires adherence to equal employment opportunities and non-discrimination policies, fostering an inclusive workplace.

The job entails medium physical work that includes lifting and moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds occasionally, which means physical stamina and strength are necessary. The role supports the school's commitment to health and safety by ensuring compliance with all safety rules and regulations including those mandated by the School Board of Broward County and relevant federal and state authorities. Candidates for this position are expected to have prior food service or cashier experience and computer skills necessary for the position. Preferred qualifications include possessing a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid Florida driver’s license, and bilingual skills to better serve the community. This employment offers an opportunity to be part of a dynamic school environment where food service is vital to student success and wellbeing.
