FOOD SERVICE GENERAL WORKER-RIVERSIDE ELEMENTARY

The Food Service General Worker role at Riverside Elementary involves skilled work in food preparation and meal service. The core objective of this position is to prepare and serve nutritionally adequate, reimbursable meals within specified production timelines while maintaining high standards of food quality and safety. The worker plays a crucial role in the school’s Food & Nutrition Services team, supporting meal preparation from pre-preparation through clean-up, ensuring adherence to strict food safety practices and department procedures including compliance with Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP). This position requires the worker to be proficient in various kitchen duties including food production, service, equipment operation, order checking, and maintaining a clean and sanitary work environment. Customer service skills are essential, as the role involves daily interaction with students, parents, staff, and the general public, promoting a professional and courteous atmosphere.

In addition to food handling and preparation, the role requires participation in ongoing state-approved food safety and nutrition training programs such as Foundations of School Food Service, Nutrition, Quantity Cooking, and Sanitation classes. The General Worker may also be responsible for operating point-of-sale systems according to federal guidelines, supporting inventory management, and driving vans or refrigerated/freezer trucks for food delivery to satellite sites. Physical demands include medium-level work involving lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally and frequently lifting or moving items up to 20 pounds.
