Job Description

The School Board of Broward County, Florida, is a leading educational organization dedicated to providing high-quality education and nutritional services to its diverse student population. Recognized for its commitment to excellence in both academic and extracurricular programs, the School Board oversees numerous schools, including Parkway Middle School located in Fort Lauderdale. With a mission to support student achievement and well-being, the organization places significant emphasis on the delivery of nutritionally balanced meals that contribute to the health and success of its students. This pivotal role is facilitated by the Food and Nutrition Services department, which ensures that all meal services meet federal and state guidelines, including adherence to food safety and sanitation standards. The School Board is known for offering competitive salary packages and a comprehensive benefits plan that supports its employees' professional growth and personal well-being. The position of Food Service General Worker at Parkway Middle is an hourly, part-time role with a competitive pay rate of $15.84 per hour, requiring 4 hours of work daily. This job opportunity is classified as nonexempt under pay grade SF1121, with the employment terms governed by the District's approved compensation plan and work calendar set to 192 days annually.

As a Food Service General Worker at Parkway Middle, your role is essential in preparing and serving reimbursable meals that are both nutritionally adequate and appealing to students. You will be responsible for meeting production deadlines, maintaining the quality of food products, and ensuring compliance with all food safety regulations, including Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP). Your duties will include following daily work schedules, assisting with food production and service, performing cleaning tasks, and operating food service equipment safely and efficiently. The role requires you to participate in state-approved training programs related to nutrition, food service foundations, quantity cooking, and sanitation to enhance your skills continually. You will be expected to demonstrate exceptional customer service by professionally interacting with students, parents, staff, and the public. Handling point-of-sale systems as per federal guidelines and managing inventory and storage of food supplies will form part of your responsibilities.

Moreover, this role includes the operation of delivery vehicles such as vans and refrigerated trucks for food distribution to satellite sites, requiring valid driving capabilities. Your work will support the overall objective of delivering quality meals on schedule while maintaining a safe and clean kitchen environment. The position engages you in regular communication with Food and Nutrition Services employees, district administrators, and the school community to align with organizational goals.

Physical demands of the job involve medium work, including lifting items up to 30 pounds regularly and occasionally exerting up to 50 pounds of force, making physical capability an essential consideration. The position also emphasizes compliance with all safety and equal employment opportunity policies of the School Board. This role presents a rewarding opportunity for individuals who enjoy working in a school environment and are committed to supporting student nutrition and health through effective food service operations. New hires start at the minimum of the assigned salary range, and the employment schedule adheres to the school board's calendar, with ongoing opportunities for professional development.
