The Food Service General Worker position at Heron Heights Elementary plays a crucial role in supporting the school’s food and nutrition services department. This role is responsible for assisting in the preparation and service of nutritionally balanced meals that meet reimbursement guidelines established by federal and state programs. The position involves performing skilled tasks to ensure food quality, safety, and production efficiency. This is a part-time role offering 3.5 hours per day at an hourly wage of $15.84. The role requires adherence to strict food safety protocols, including the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) system, and involves tasks such as food preparation, service, kitchen and equipment cleaning, and inventory assistance.
The Food Service General Worker supports the nutritional needs of students by following established recipes and schedules to ensure timely and safe meal delivery. They also operate point-of-sale systems in compliance with federal guidelines and handle food service equipment with care to maintain a safe work environment. Additional responsibilities include assisting with orders and storage of supplies and food items, maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in kitchen areas, and occasionally driving delivery vehicles to satellite sites, including refrigerated trucks.
This position requires strong communication skills to interact effectively with students, staff, parents, and the public, demonstrating professionalism and excellent customer service. The job also requires participation in ongoing state-approved training programs covering topics such as school food service foundations, nutrition, quantity cooking, and sanitation. Physical demands include the ability to lift up to 30 pounds and perform medium physical work.

- Prior food service or cashier work experience
- Ability to follow directions, read, and communicate in English
- Ability to effectively communicate with students, teachers, school administrators, and food service personnel
- Computer skills as required for the position

Job Duties
- Follow daily work schedules for food production, service, and cleaning
- Participate in ongoing state-approved training and educational initiatives related to food and nutrition services
- Demonstrate and promote exceptional customer service
- Operate point-of-sale systems according to federal guidelines when assigned
- Adhere to food safety rules, departmental procedures, and HACCP standards
- Perform kitchen duties including pre-preparation, food production, service, backup, clean-up, and check-in orders
- Assist with ordering, storage, and inventories for supplies and food items
- Follow written recipes and record production details
- Operate food service equipment safely
- Maintain a clean work environment by disposing of garbage and waste
- Ensure sanitation practices are followed, including personal hygiene and grooming
- Perform necessary cleaning of food service equipment and facilities
- Drive vans and refrigerated/freezer trucks for food delivery as directed
