Job Description

The School Board of Broward County, Florida, is a leading educational institution dedicated to providing high-quality education and services to its community. As part of its commitment to student success and well-being, the board manages an extensive Food and Nutrition Services program that supports thousands of students daily by ensuring they receive nutritious, healthful meals. This organization is well-known for fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for both its employees and the students it serves, emphasizing professional development and adherence to federal and state regulations.

Located at Hallandale High in Hallandale Beach, this role is a vital part of the school's Food and Nutrition Services team. The position of Food Service General Worker involves skilled work in the preparation and service of nutritionally adequate and reimbursable meals for students. Working approximately 5.25 hours per day, this role is nonexempt with a pay grade SF1121 and an hourly rate of $15.84. The Food Service General Worker is responsible for meeting production deadlines while upholding the quality and safety of food products, complying with HACCP standards and other protocols.

Employees in this position must follow daily schedules for food production, service, and cleaning, contributing to a clean and safe kitchen environment. They participate in ongoing state-approved training and educational programs related to nutrition, sanitation, quantity cooking, and school food service foundations. Interaction with students, parents, staff, and the general public requires exceptional customer service skills, professionalism, and clear communication.

The role also includes the operation of point-of-sale systems according to federal guidelines, assisting with food storage, inventory, and ordering procedures, and adhering to food safety rules. The Food Service General Worker performs a variety of kitchen duties such as pre-preparation, cooking, serving meals, cleaning, and checking incoming orders. Maintaining high standards of hygiene and sanitation is critical to the role, as is the ability to safely operate food service equipment.

Additional responsibilities include driving refrigerated and freezer trucks to deliver food to satellite sites as directed. The position involves medium physical work, requiring the ability to lift up to 30 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally. This physical demand ensures that the Food Service General Worker can manage the logistics of meal preparation and delivery efficiently.

The School Board of Broward County values diversity and inclusiveness and expects all personnel to comply with non-discrimination policies. The position offers opportunities for professional growth through participation in training programs and encourages employees to stay informed about trends and developments in food service and nutrition. The working calendar aligns with the school district's schedule, supporting a structured work environment.

In summary, the Food Service General Worker at Hallandale High is a crucial part of the educational community, ensuring students receive safe, nutritious meals that contribute to their academic success and well-being. This role is ideal for individuals who are hardworking, attentive to detail, and committed to delivering excellent service in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment.
