Operating numerous schools and service centers, the board is committed to fostering an environment where students can thrive academically, socially, and physically. The district has a strong focus on nutrition and wellness, emphasizing the importance of nutritious meals as a foundation for student success. Its Food and Nutrition Services department plays a vital role in ensuring that students receive healthy, reimbursable meals that meet both federal and state nutritional guidelines. The school district values integrity, professionalism, and continuous improvement in all aspects of service delivery.

The role of Food Service General Worker at Crystal Lake Middle in Pompano Beach is a key position within the district’s Food and Nutrition Services. This nonexempt, part-time position offers approximately 5.75 hours of work per day at a competitive hourly rate of $15.84. The worker plays an essential role in the preparation, service, and maintenance of nutritionally adequate meals that comply with approved meal patterns and safety standards. The position requires skillful food production, timely service, and responsibility for maintaining food quality and safety. The Food Service General Worker will actively participate in state-approved training programs related to school food service, nutrition, and sanitation.

Beyond meal preparation, the role includes customer service responsibilities, where the worker will engage professionally with students, staff, parents, and visitors, exemplifying exceptional service and good judgment. The worker may also operate point-of-sale systems in accordance with federal guidelines, ensuring compliance during meal service operations. Responsibilities extend to assisting in inventory management, order checking, equipment operation, and maintaining cleanliness and sanitation throughout the kitchen and food service areas. The position also involves driving refrigerated vehicles and vans to deliver food to satellite sites when required.

Ideal candidates have prior experience in food service or cashier roles, possess strong communication skills in English, and demonstrate the ability to follow instructions meticulously. Computer skills pertinent to the role are essential. Preferred qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, a valid Florida Driver’s License, and bilingual capabilities, which enhance communication within the diverse school community.

The role demands physical stamina as it involves medium work, requiring lifting and moving up to 50 pounds occasionally, with regular lifting of up to 30 pounds. Safety and compliance with federal, state, and school board regulations are paramount, as is adherence to personal hygiene and food safety standards. The Food Service General Worker will contribute to the department’s mission of supporting student achievement by ensuring access to safe, nourishing meals in a timely and efficient manner.
