Job Description
Charles W. Flanagan High, located in Pembroke Pines, Florida, operates under The School Board of Broward County, one of the largest and most diverse school districts in the United States. The district is committed to providing equitable educational opportunities and fostering student and staff success through quality services and programs. The Food & Nutrition Services Department is a vital part of this mission, providing nutritionally balanced meals to support student achievement and wellbeing. This department adheres strictly to federal and state nutrition guidelines and is dedicated to maintaining food safety and excellent customer service standards. The school itself fosters an inclusive and supportive environment, emphasizing the importance of both academic and extracurricular success for its student body.
The position of Food Service General Worker at Charles W. Flanagan High is designed as an essential role within the school's Food & Nutrition Services. This is a part-time position that pays $15.84 per hour with approximately 4 hours worked per day. The role focuses on the skilled preparation and service of meals that meet nutritional standards, ensuring that meals are reimbursable under federal guidelines. The General Worker is responsible for maintaining quality control in all aspects of food preparation and service, working within production deadlines, and providing excellent customer service to students, staff, and the general public. The position requires adherence to food safety regulations, including HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points), and involves various kitchen duties such as food pre-preparation, cooking, serving, and cleaning.
Additionally, the role includes operating point-of-sale systems in accordance with federal guidelines, assisting with inventory management, including ordering and proper storage of supplies and food items, and ensuring all activities comply with both school district policies and equal employment regulations. The Food Service General Worker also participates in on-going state-approved training programs aimed at enhancing skills and knowledge related to nutrition, quantity cooking, and sanitation, which are critical to meeting the high standards expected in school food service operations. Furthermore, driving responsibilities are part of the role, requiring the safe operation of refrigerated and freezer trucks for food delivery to satellite sites, which ensures timely meal distribution across multiple locations. This position demands physical effort consistent with medium work, involving lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally and regular movement of kitchen materials.
Candidates for this role will have prior experience in food service or cashier work and must demonstrate effective communication skills in English, as well as the ability to engage professionally with students, teachers, and other school personnel. Preferred qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, a valid Florida driver’s license, and bilingual skills to better serve the diverse school community. This job is under the nonexempt classification, meaning it qualifies for overtime, and new hires will start at the minimum of the salary range. Working at Charles W. Flanagan High offers an opportunity to contribute directly to the wellbeing of students by supporting their nutritional needs in a vibrant educational setting. The position promises a structured working calendar aligned with the school year and a supportive team environment dedicated to student success and operational excellence.
