Within the structure of the Corporation, the Food Service Department plays a vital role in managing the distribution and preparation of meals and supplies to the various schools under its jurisdiction. The Food Service Department operates on a schedule aligned with the school calendar, supporting daily meal distribution and maintaining logistical coordination throughout the district.
The Food Distributor position within the Food Service Department is crucial for the seamless delivery of prepared foods, commodities, bulk food, and supplies from the base kitchen to the satellite schools. The role is designed to support 261 workdays per year, with an 8-hour workday schedule. Reporting directly to the Food Service Director, the Food Distributor is accountable for ensuring that all food products and supplies are safely transported, properly rotated, and stored in compliance with health and safety regulations. This individual also performs routine preventive maintenance on essential equipment and undertakes custodial duties to maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards. Key responsibilities include loading, transporting, and unloading items according to an approved schedule, collecting return items, and maintaining inventory areas such as dry, refrigerated, and frozen storage spaces. The role also involves operating power equipment, managing vending machine maintenance, conducting temperature checks, and ensuring the overall cleanliness and safety of the base kitchen and service truck.
The position requires a blend of physical stamina, mechanical aptitude, and adherence to strict food safety practices. Candidates must have a valid driver’s license with an excellent driving record and the ability to lift weights regularly up to 40 pounds and occasionally up to 60 pounds. Experience in foodservice or warehousing is preferred, alongside skills in forklift operation. Job Requirements
- Experience in foodservice or warehousing preferred
- Forklift experience preferred
- Must have a current driver’s license and excellent driving record
- High school graduate or GED preferred
- Must be able to frequently lift up to 40 lbs and occasionally up lift up to 60 lbs and work in extreme temperatures
- Mechanical aptitude preferred
- Excellent work habits, attendance record and successfully complete and pass all criminal history and child abuse clearances
- Shall remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the Corporation
- Must possess or be able to obtain food sanitation certification

Job Duties
- Load, transport and unload food, supplies and equipment from the base kitchen to satellite schools on a prearranged approved schedule or as assigned by the Food Service Director
- Transport satellite school reports, money, and any equipment and food returning to the base kitchen on a prearranged approved schedule or as assigned by the Food Service Director
- Keep the dry, refrigerated and frozen storage areas stocked, clean and organized in accordance with department regulations
- Collect and deliver product orders to the base kitchen for food preparation and supplies for customer and employee use
- Provide routine preventive maintenance for filters, pumps, motors, traps and compressors
- Provide maintenance for department owned vending machines
- Keep the service truck clean and maintained by routinely checking the mechanical condition for reliability and schedules truck service in consultation with the Food Service Director and Transportation
