The Food Service Director position at Summit in St. Louis, Missouri, offers a full-time, onsite opportunity to lead and manage food service operations within a correctional setting. This role is critical to maintaining the high standards required in this specialized environment, combining leadership, operational oversight, budget management, and team development. The ideal candidate will be adept at handling the complexities associated with food service in correctional institutions, including compliance with strict safety, sanitation, and culinary standards.

As Food Service Director, you will oversee all functions of the food service department, ensuring seamless service delivery that meets the nutritional needs of the facility’s population. You will be responsible for managing a dedicated team of food service professionals, including hiring, training, and motivating staff to perform at their best. Additionally, you will manage budgets, source ingredients, and monitor financial performance, ensuring departmental targets and forecasts are met efficiently.

Communication and collaboration are key elements of this role, as you will regularly engage with district management and other departments to address technical and administrative aspects of dining service, and to resolve customer service issues promptly. This role requires passing a background check in compliance with Correctional Units policy and offers a competitive compensation package up to $70,000 per year. Job Requirements

  • Must be able to clear background check per the Correctional Units policy
  • At least two years of experience coordinating food service operations
  • Previous experience with industrial cooking
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to manage in a diverse environment
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite
  • ServSafe and/or HACCP certification preferred

Job Duties

  • Managing all functions of the food service department and its resources
  • Manage and lead a team of associates, including hiring and training new employees
  • Ensuring that staff meet all culinary, safety, and sanitation standards and regulations
  • Budgeting for the department, including directly purchasing ingredients and ensuring the account meets all targets and forecasts
  • Conferring with the district manager or other departments regarding the technical and administrative aspects of dining service
  • Addressing customer service needs
