The Food Service Cook role at EveryStep is a vital component within the healthcare dietary services team, responsible for preparing nutritious, high-quality meals that meet the specific dietary needs of patients. This position requires adherence to strict food safety standards and healthcare regulations to ensure patient health and satisfaction. The Food Service Cook must maintain cleanliness and organization in food preparation areas, monitor food storage and refrigeration conditions, and collaborate effectively with healthcare staff to ensure timely meal delivery. Additional responsibilities include receiving and managing food deliveries, reporting any health or safety concerns, and supporting infection control protocols set by the facility. This role often involves medium physical work, including handling food supplies and kitchen equipment, within an environment that may expose the employee to chemicals, infectious diseases, and varying atmospheric conditions. Work hours can be irregular, often based on patient census models, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Job Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Food handler's certification or completion within 6 months of hire
  • Previous experience in food service or healthcare dietary setting preferred
  • Ability to manage time effectively and work well in a team
  • Compassionate and respectful attitude towards others
  • Basic written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic computer skills and willingness to learn software
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation if driving is needed
  • Pass pre-employment physical, drug screen, TB tests and background check

Job Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Current food handler's certification or completion within 6 months of hire (e.g., ServSafe or accredited program)
  • Previous food service or healthcare dietary experience preferred
  • Knowledge of special diets and modified food textures (mechanical soft, thickened liquids)
  • Strong time management and teamwork skills
  • Compassionate and respectful attitude toward employees, patients and families
  • Basic written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic keyboarding and computer skills with ability to learn work-related software
  • Valid driver's license, auto liability insurance, and reliable transportation if driving is required
  • Successful completion of pre-employment physical, drug screening, TB tests and background check

Job Duties

  • Prepares and cooks meals according to dietary guidelines
  • Ensures food is cooked and served at safe temperatures compliant with food safety standards
  • Sets up and maintains workstations in a clean, organized, and sanitary manner
  • Monitors and records food storage, refrigeration, and labeling in accordance with health code standards
  • Reports any signs of illness or health concerns to the Food Service Manager
  • Collaborates with healthcare staff to ensure timely meal service and patient satisfaction
  • Cleans kitchen equipment, utensils, and work areas after use
  • Receives and stores food deliveries, rotating stock and checking expiration dates
  • Complies with facility protocols regarding infection control and sanitation
  • Reports any equipment issues or food shortages to the Food Service Manager
