The Food Service Cook IIA position at Heron Heights Elementary is an essential role within the Food & Nutrition Services department. This role involves performing skilled work in preparing and serving nutritionally adequate and reimbursable meals that meet federal and state nutrition guidelines. The position requires a commitment to production deadlines and ensures that food quality standards are consistently met. Operating with an hourly rate of $17.23 and a daily work schedule of six hours, this nonexempt position is critical to supporting the daily food service needs of the school. The Food Service Cook IIA will engage in food production tasks including pre-preparation, cooking, service, cleanup, and inventory management, ensuring all procedures align with health and safety regulations such as the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) standards.
In addition to meal preparation, this role involves operating point-of-sale systems as dictated by federal guidelines, providing exceptional customer service with professionalism and effective communication with students, staff, parents, and the public. The Food Service Cook IIA participates in ongoing state-approved training programs covering essential topics like nutrition, sanitation, and quantity cooking to maintain and enhance service quality. Driving responsibilities may include operating refrigerated and freezer trucks for food delivery to satellite sites, requiring a valid driver’s license.
Physical demands are moderate, including lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally and routine lifting up to 30 pounds. The job requires adherence to safety rules, sanitation protocols, and school board policies to maintain a healthy and safe work environment. - Ability to follow directions, read and communicate in English
- Ability to effectively communicate with students, teachers, school administrators and Food & Nutrition service-related personnel
- Computer skills as required for the position

Job Duties
- Follow daily work schedules for food production, service, and cleaning
- Participate in ongoing state-approved training and educational initiatives
- Demonstrate and promote exceptional customer service
- Operate point of sale according to federal guidelines
- Adhere to food safety rules, departmental procedures and HACCP
- Perform kitchen duties including pre-preparation, food production, service, clean-up, and check-in orders
- Assist with ordering, proper storage and inventories for supplies and food items
- Follow written recipes and food preparation instructions and record data
- Operate food service equipment safely
- Maintain a clean work environment including waste disposal
- Ensure sanitation practices and personal hygiene standards
- Comply with federal and state food and nutrition program standards
- Perform cleaning of food service equipment and facilities
- Drive vans and refrigerated trucks for food delivery
- Promote compliance with equal employment and non-discrimination policies
- Participate in training programs to enhance skills
- Review current developments related to job responsibilities
- Ensure adherence to safety rules and procedures
- Follow federal and state laws and school board policies
