The role of Part-Time Food Service Cook & Cashier is vital in supporting the operational aspects of The Academy. This position involves assisting with meal preparation, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards, and providing excellent service in a school setting. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working within a busy school environment, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of individuals. This part-time role requires availability during school hours, with a workweek totaling 27.5 hours, typically from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM, spanning the school year from August 2026 to May 2027.
The cook and cashier’s responsibilities include cooking, setting up food service lines, managing cash transactions, and maintaining cleanliness of food preparation and service areas. The Academy prioritizes safe food handling practices and adherence to all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, ensuring a nutritious and safe meal experience for all students. This position offers an hourly wage starting at $18.00, with potential increases depending on experience. Job Requirements
- high school diploma or equivalent
- work experience with large volume food preparation and/or cashiering preferred
- criminal background check required for hire
- ability to successfully complete a pre-hire, post-offer physical examination
- basic mathematical and measuring skills for following recipes and giving change to students
- basic computer skills preferred
- cashiering skills preferred
- ability to promote and follow Board of Education policies, Authorizer policies and building and department procedures
- ability to communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with people from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds
- willingness to contribute to cultural diversity for educational enrichment
- ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator

Job Duties
- assists in meal preparation and service by cooking, pre-portioning and setting up service lines, condiment stands, and fruit and vegetable bar
- serves, cashiers, or batch cooks during meal service
- cleans equipment, utensils, pans and all food preparation, serving and storage areas
- assists with processing of advanced payments from students/parents
- assists with preparation of end-of-day reports by counting cash
- maintains records, i.e. enters amount of food prepared, used and leftover on menu worksheets
- stores, dates, and labels leftover food
- performs other duties as assigned
