Job Requirements

  • Must have a high school diploma or accredited equivalent
  • Must have the ability to read, write, follow verbal and written instructions
  • Must have a strong knowledge of safety and sanitation as it relates to food service operations
  • Minimum of two years experience in the food service industry desirable
  • Must complete sanitation and safety classes through the Michigan School Food Service Association and Michigan Department of Education within two years
  • Must be able to work under pressure and tolerate frequent standing, occasional bending, squatting, reaching, and lifting with or without ADA accommodation
  • Must have sufficient mobility to perform assigned tasks within production and service time frames
  • Must display reliable attendance and promptness

Job Duties

  • Implements a standardized menu by preparing and/or cooking the entree components in proper portion size and quantity in accordance with school lunch hours
  • Ensures all sanitation and safety practices comply with state, county, and district requirements and codes
  • Assists with planning production schedules and thaw lists
  • Ensures compliance with USDA, Michigan Department of Education, and District rules and regulations
  • Communicates with Food Service Manager regarding concerns related to policies and procedures
  • Promotes student and staff satisfaction through attractive meal preparation and merchandising
  • Prepares other meal components and ala carte items for service
  • Expands and follows standardized recipes
  • Operates a variety of commercial food service equipment
  • Ensures proper presentation, portion control, and maintenance of cooking, holding, and cooling temperatures
  • Adheres to prescribed safety procedures including reporting hazards and administering first aid
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Food Service Manager or Director of Food Services
