The role of Food Service Cook at Lexington Health is a full-time, night shift position with working hours from 9 PM to 5:30 AM. This role involves hands-on food preparation duties in a fast-paced hospital environment to serve patients, cafeteria patrons, retail operations, catered events, and the Child Development Center. The Food Service Cook is tasked with following standardized recipes to ensure food quality, taste, and appropriate portion sizes, while adhering to specific dietary restrictions and food safety standards. The position requires effective time management to guarantee that meals are prepared and served promptly. The Food Service Cook also assists in cleaning and sanitizing kitchen and food service equipment and completes prep work for upcoming shifts. This is a vital role in supporting the nutrition services department and contributing to patient satisfaction and overall hospital operations. It is suitable for candidates with at least one year of cooking experience or those with equivalent internal nutrition associate experience within Lexington Health. This position does not require formal educational qualifications or specific certifications but expects candidates to possess basic math skills, an understanding of food safety practices including HACCP, proper food storage, and sanitation procedures, as well as strong customer service skills.   • Understanding of food service safety guidelines including temperature control, HACCP, proper storage, and sanitation
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment with good time management skills

Job Duties

  • Prepares food based upon specific direction which includes modified diet restrictions
  • Follows recipes accurately to prepare foods in the correct quantity and quality including taste and temperature
  • Plans and organizes work schedule to ensure that food is ready, garnished, and on the line as scheduled
  • Cleans and sanitizes food service equipment according to schedule using proper cleaning agents
  • Completes prep work for the following day
  • Maintains an optimistic and professional image and exhibits excellent customer relations to patients, visitors, physicians, and coworkers
  • Shows courtesy, compassion and respect while conforming to Service Excellence Policy and Service Expectations
