In addition to leading cooking demos tailored to community flavor preferences, this position involves mentoring customers on menu suggestions, meal planning, and accommodating dietary needs. The Food Service Cook plays a pivotal role in strengthening customer relationships by maintaining knowledge of customer preferences and restrictions, thereby providing a personalized shopping experience. Key responsibilities also include ensuring the cleanliness, safety, and organization of the Cooking Connection kitchen in compliance with all food safety and sanitation regulations. Supporting store events, merchandising, inventory tasks, and upholding high-quality food preparation standards are integral to this dynamic role.

This position also entails obtaining necessary certifications such as TABC and wine selling endorsements to support beverage sales. The Food Service Cook must be adaptable to a fast-paced work environment, proficient in H-E-B’s internal systems for recipe authoring, scheduling, ordering, and marketing, and flexible with working hours including weekends and holidays. Job Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Degree or certification in culinary arts, nutrition, home economics, or similar field preferred
  • Minimum two years related culinary, food preparation, or sales experience
  • TABC and wine selling certification required for wine sales
  • Strong culinary skills including grilling, sautéing, roasting, and frying
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to multitask and adapt in a busy environment
  • Proficiency or willingness to learn H-E-B internal systems
  • Availability to work on weekends and holidays

Job Qualifications

  • At least 21 years of age

Job Duties

  • Make food events memorable and interactive by presenting cooking demonstrations and sampling events tailored to community flavor preferences
  • Foster customer engagement and elevate sales by offering valuable information on ingredient versatility, cooking methods, and beverage selections
  • Serve as a welcoming mentor by offering menu recommendations, aiding meal planning, and customizing recipes for dietary needs
  • Establish and maintain customer relationships by tracking flavor preferences, dietary restrictions, and beverage choices
  • Enhance store events and merchandising collaborations with creative culinary content and themed recipe ideas
  • Adhere to food safety, sanitation, and federal regulations to ensure a clean and organized kitchen environment
  • Assist in inventory management, restocking, and merchandising to maintain attractive product displays
  • Participate in retail food preparation following precise methods and quality standards
  • Attend food safety trainings and obtain certifications like TABC and wine selling endorsements
