With strong ties to the local church community, SMS emphasizes values of care, respect, and professionalism in all aspects of its operations. The organization understands the critical role proper nutrition plays in early childhood development and works diligently to ensure all meals meet strict quality and safety standards. This focus has made SMS a trusted partner for families and educational institutions in the area, supporting healthy growth and learning from a young age.
The available role at SMS is for a Prep Cook position within a preschool cafeteria situated on the Detroit Westside. This is a full-time opportunity tailored for individuals who are passionate about working with children and are eager to contribute to a safe and healthy eating environment. The Prep Cook will be responsible for preparing a variety of meals and snacks, adhering closely to weekly menus that support balanced nutrition for young students. The role demands not only culinary skills but also the ability to work collaboratively with educational staff to ensure meal service meets the exact requirements and dietary needs of each classroom.

Responsibilities such as monitoring food temperatures, managing inventory, and keeping detailed production reports require attention to detail and reliability. Additionally, the Prep Cook must comply with all health and safety regulations, including passing a TB test, background check, and drug screening, ensuring a secure environment for all students and staff.
This position follows a Monday through Friday schedule from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, offering a steady $18.00 per hour wage. Aside from the competitive compensation, the role offers meaningful work that directly impacts children's wellbeing and educational experience.
