The Food Service Attendant/Cook position at Buffalo City Mission plays a vital role within the organization’s women’s shelter. This part-time, temporary role requires a dedicated individual who can support the kitchen's operational needs with both cooking expertise and supervisory skills. The position offers a wage ranging from $16.00 to $17.00 per hour and operates on a schedule of Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. There is also an option for a full-time permanent schedule from Tuesday to Saturday with flexible hours between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. This role is ideal for someone passionate about employing their culinary skills in a setting that makes a meaningful difference in the community.
The Food Service Attendant/Cook will manage kitchen operations including food preparation, cooking, cleaning, and supervisory duties. They will assign tasks to kitchen staff such as attendants, cooks, and volunteers, ensuring smooth workflow and adherence to all safety and sanitation protocols. Responsibilities also extend to assisting in menu planning, coordinating donations, and maintaining relationships with vendors. The position demands rigorous attention to food safety standards, including practices like FIFO (First In, First Out), proper food storage, temperature control, and equipment maintenance. Keeping detailed kitchen operation records like temperature logs and meal counts is also essential, ensuring readiness for any health inspections.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum of 5 years culinary experience
- Minimum of 3 years supervisory experience
- SERV Safe certification
- Knowledge of OSHA guidelines and MSDS information
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Strong personal faith and articulate belief in Jesus Christ
Job Qualifications

Job Duties
- Direct kitchen operations including food preparation, cooking, and cleanup
- Assign tasks and supervise attendants, cooks, volunteers, and specialty department coordinators
- Assist in menu planning and ordering, including implementation of donations
- Maintain relationships with vendors and donation providers
- Resolve issues and communicate with the Director of Food Services
- Enforce staff adherence to policies and procedures
- Uphold all safety practices and ensure kitchen cleanliness and readiness
