Established with a vision to provide not only shelter but also hope and opportunities for individuals in need, Buffalo City Mission plays a pivotal role in the lives of those struggling with homelessness, poverty, and various social challenges. With a focus on restoring dignity and fostering long-term stability, the Mission offers comprehensive support programs including shelter, food, employment assistance, and spiritual guidance.
The Food Service Attendant/Cook position at Buffalo City Mission is a full-time role based at the women’s shelter. This opportunity allows individuals to serve with purpose in an environment that emphasizes grace, love, and hope. The role involves direct involvement in kitchen operations, food preparation, cooking, and cleaning, ensuring that nutritious and well-prepared meals are provided daily to guests. Beyond operational duties, the position includes supervisory responsibilities such as managing kitchen staff, volunteers, and coordinators, and ensuring all team members adhere to policies and safety standards. The Food Service Attendant/Cook supports the overall mission by creating an environment of care and consistency in meal service.
The position is scheduled Tuesday through Saturday, with varying hours from 7 AM to 6 PM depending on the day, offering a competitive hourly wage between $16.00 and $17.00. Employees benefit from a comprehensive package including medical coverage, employer-paid premiums, vision coverage, life insurance, supplemental insurance options, and a Health Savings Account (HSA). This role is ideal for candidates who are not only experienced in culinary arts and kitchen management but who also feel called to serve within a faith-centered community. The organization's commitment to biblical principles encourages employees to integrate their faith with their work, fostering a unique and supportive workplace culture that values each individual's contribution to the mission of changing lives through service.
In this role, the Food Service Attendant/Cook will work collaboratively with vendors and donation providers to manage supplies and support menu planning that meets nutritional standards. They will maintain kitchen equipment and ensure all food safety protocols are rigorously followed, including FIFO inventory management, proper food handling, storage, and preparation procedures. Detailed recordkeeping and adherence to health inspections are essential aspects of maintaining a safe and compliant kitchen environment. This position offers a meaningful career path for individuals who are committed to culinary excellence and compassion-driven service, making a tangible difference in the community while advancing professionally in a faith-led organization.
