St. Charles Health System is a reputable healthcare organization committed to fostering the healthiest community in America. With its dedication to providing excellent healthcare services, St. Charles adopts a vision of creating America’s healthiest community together. Their mission emphasizes delivering better health, better care, and better value, all rooted in love and compassion. The organization upholds core values such as accountability, caring, and teamwork, making it a compassionate workplace that prioritizes patient wellbeing and community health. The Food Services Department at St. Charles Health System is an energetic, high-volume service department geared towards impeccable food and beverage delivery. This includes patient room service, a café, deli, and catering services, each designed to ensure world-class dining experiences for patients and visitors alike. This department values efficiency, cleanliness, and quality service in every task and interaction, making it integral to the overall patient experience at the healthcare facility.

The role of Food Service Attendant at St. Charles Health System is a versatile position that offers cross-training in several food service roles including room service tray preparation, meal delivery, dishroom cleaning, and café/deli attendant tasks. As a Food Service Attendant, you will cover shifts as needed to respond to caregiver absences due to sick call, earned time off, or other reasons. This job demands flexibility because the daily work changes depending on the shift assignment. On any given day, responsibilities may comprise customer service, catering preparations, serving, cash handling, coffee and espresso preparation, meal tray assembly, dishwashing, and maintaining cleanliness of food service areas. This position does not involve management responsibilities but requires a motivated, proactive, and team-oriented individual eager to contribute to the patient’s satisfaction and wellbeing.

Working in this role requires adherence to rigorous safety, sanitation, and customer service standards. Tasks range from preparing food and beverages following safe handling guidelines to operating espresso machines and preparing specialty coffee drinks. Food Service Attendants are expected to provide exceptional customer service, recommending products and accommodating special dietary requests or restrictions. Cleanliness and organization of the café, deli, kitchen, and eating areas are a critical part of the job. Attendants also assist in catering events, helping with setup, serving, and cleanup. They are responsible for accurately preparing and delivering patient meals, verifying orders carefully, particularly noting any safety precautions like aspiration risks or dietary limitations. Familiarity with therapeutic diets and menu items is important to ensure patients' nutritional needs and restrictions are respected throughout meal delivery.

The Food Service Attendant must also abide by infection control protocols, especially when delivering meals to patients under isolation or other precautionary care. They participate actively in quality and safety checks, maintaining a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality. The position supports continuous improvement practices and strives to maintain a safe and hygienic environment for caregivers, patients, and guests. This dynamic role also requires physical stamina and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail and quality customer service.

This relief position offers variable shift scheduling and compensation ranging from $19.81 to $24.76 per hour, with additional differentials for relief, swing shifts, night shifts, and weekends. The role offers the opportunity to gain diversified food service experience, work within a healthcare setting, and contribute meaningfully to patient care through nutrition and service excellence. It is an exempt position within the attendant job family and includes varied workdays, which may encompass weekends and holidays. Joining St. Charles Health System as a Food Service Attendant means becoming part of a dedicated team focused on health, compassion, and service excellence, within an organization that values its employees and fosters career growth.
