The Food Service Associate position at Unity Hospital is a part-time role requiring approximately 20 hours per week. The typical schedule revolves around afternoon and early evening hours from 3:45 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. with weekend rotations, allowing for a balance between professional responsibilities and personal time. The hourly pay range is competitive, set at $16.00 to $17.25 per hour, reflecting the value and importance of this role within the hospital environment. The associate will be an integral part of the Food and Nutrition Services team, working to support the dietary needs of patients and ensuring high-quality meal service. The associate will work in designated dish rooms or cleaning areas, manage inventory control by organizing coolers, freezers, and dry storage, and ensure replenishment and readiness of workstations for subsequent meal shifts. Customer service skills are essential, as the position involves direct interaction with patients, residents, and staff, requiring professionalism, clear communication, and a positive attitude. Food cart delivery and accurate supply distribution to various hospital units are part of the daily responsibilities. Safety in food handling and equipment operation is emphasized, with necessary training provided to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations. Additional duties may include cash handling and register operation, depending on the specific unit and service needs.

Job Requirements

  • ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English
  • valid American National Standards Institute accredited Food Safety Certification (e.g., ServSafe, NRFSP) obtained within 3 months of hire for ElderOne
  • physical capability to exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or walking, standing or squatting frequently
  • adherence to facility safety and sanitation protocols
  • availability to work assigned shifts including weekends
  • commitment to professional appearance and conduct

Job Qualifications

  • ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English
  • knowledge of food safety and sanitation preferred
  • previous food service experience preferred
  • valid food safety certification (e.g., ServSafe or NRFSP) obtained within 3 months of hire for ElderOne program

Job Duties

  • Assemble all patient, resident and customer meals or nourishments according to menu and diet specifications while utilizing proper food handling practices in a timely and organized manner
  • perform all required duties in the facilities dish room or designated cleaning area
  • deliver food carts to and from units while maintaining excellent customer relations
  • accurately deliver and fill supplies to units as required
  • assist with maintaining organization of coolers, freezers, and dry storage to facilitate inventory control
  • maintain work areas in a safe, sanitary and orderly manner, demonstrating proper equipment use and sanitation techniques
  • replenish work stations and supplies for the next meal or shift
  • operate food service equipment safely and utilize personal protective equipment according to manufacturer labels and SDS information
  • attend and retain all staff meetings and in-service training
  • maintain a positive representation of Food and Nutrition Services through professionalism, hygiene and uniform
  • perform other duties as assigned within the department
  • handle cash and use register as required
