This role is for a Food Service Associate located in Tempe, Arizona, within IKEA's Food & Restaurant Department. It is a full-time permanent position that offers meaningful employment in a vibrant retail and food service setting. The Food Service Associate will be a key contributor to maintaining operational excellence in IKEA’s food offerings, ensuring that every meal served upholds the brand’s standards of honest, healthy, and delicious food that aligns with IKEA’s sustainability commitments. The position demands a passion for food whether in preparation or service and requires maintaining high standards around food safety, hygiene, and customer service. The associate will actively engage with customers, providing accurate information about menu items and supporting sales transactions with integrity and efficiency. Additionally, the role involves managing inventory, equipment upkeep, and ensuring that all IKEA Food solutions—from the restaurant menu to the Swedish Food Market—are well stocked, properly priced, and visually appealing.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • prior experience in food service or restaurant environment preferred
  • ability to work flexible hours including nights and weekends
  • ability to adhere to food handling, health, safety, and sanitation regulations
  • strong communication and customer service skills
  • ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • must pass background check and drug test as condition of employment

Job Qualifications

  • knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards
  • ability to provide excellent customer service and communication skills
  • basic math skills for cash handling and inventory management

Job Duties

  • Prepare and maintain IKEA Food menu items according to the IKEA Food concept, adhering to food handling, health, and sustainability standards
  • respond to customer inquiries to support informed purchases and process sales transactions accurately and efficiently, adhering to cash handling policies
  • maintain equipment operation through adherence to operating guidelines, troubleshooting breakdowns, and conducting preventive and cleaning maintenance
  • maintain a clean supply of dishes, silverware, cooking utensils, pots, pans, and trays that comply with Food Safety Standards
  • ensure the cleanliness and organization of dining and play areas
  • manage the Swedish Food Market by overseeing merchandising, pricing, stock rotation, and the cleaning and sanitization of sampling equipment and areas
  • ensure accurate and timely price communication across all food solutions, including digital platforms, menu boards, and shelf tags
