Duke Health is a renowned healthcare system committed to providing compassionate and advanced medical care that positively impacts the lives of patients, their families, and the community at large. With a mission to improve health outcomes, Duke Health integrates clinical excellence with cutting-edge research and a dedication to education. It operates multiple hospitals and healthcare facilities, creating a comprehensive network that delivers quality care across various specialties.
One of its key facilities is Duke Raleigh Hospital, a vital campus of Duke University Hospital located in Raleigh, North Carolina. Featuring 204 beds, Duke Raleigh Hospital ranks as the third largest within the Duke Health system. The hospital offers a broad range of specialized services including cancer treatment, cardiovascular care, neuroscience, advanced gastrointestinal procedures, and wound healing. This diverse array of healthcare options ensures patients receive thorough, expert care tailored to their unique needs.
The Food Service Associate position at Duke Raleigh Hospital plays a crucial role in supporting the hospital’s operations by ensuring the efficient preparation, service, and delivery of food products. Depending on the department's structure, this role may combine responsibilities from Level I and Level II positions. Level I associates focus on routine tasks such as operating dish machines, washing pots, performing heavy cleaning, and transporting supplies as instructed. Level II associates handle more complex duties including food preparation, mixing, assembling, portioning, and service operations. They also manage inventory by receiving, inspecting, storing, and controlling supplies and foodstuffs. Some may take on cashier functions when necessary.
The role demands physical stamina, such as the ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds, and requires close attention to safety protocols, sanitation standards, and customer service excellence. Food Service Associates may assist in setting up cafeteria or tray lines, maintaining food quality, troubleshooting equipment, and supporting catering events. The position is essential for maintaining the smooth functioning of hospital food services that directly contribute to patient satisfaction and well-being.
Candidates are welcomed regardless of previous experience for Level I positions, while Level II requires at least six months of food service experience. Key skills include basic math, computer, cashiering, food handling, and inventory management abilities. Duke Health fosters an inclusive and supportive workplace culture that values innovation, diversity, and collaboration, making it an exceptional place for individuals passionate about contributing to healthcare operations and patient care.
