Job Description
Bezos Academy is a tuition-free, Montessori-inspired preschool dedicated to providing a nurturing and enriching educational environment for young children. Committed to excellence in early childhood education, Bezos Academy emphasizes a holistic approach that blends academic rigor with social-emotional development. The school is designed to support every child's full potential, fostering a community built on inclusivity, diversity, and respect. With multiple locations and plans for expansion, including a new preschool launching soon in Lakeland, FL, Bezos Academy maintains a strong employer commitment to creating supportive, engaging workplaces that enhance both staff and student experiences.
The Food Service Assistant role at Bezos Academy is a vital position focused on ensuring the delivery of nutritious, compliant meals to children, aligned with USDA and local childcare regulations. This role involves managing kitchen operations, from food preparation to service, with a keen attention to detail, organization, and strict adherence to safety protocols. The Food Service Assistant handles all aspects of menu planning, food ordering, receipt verification, cost management, and cleanliness within the kitchen. Additionally, this role supports other school functions including classroom assistance, inventory oversight, and administrative aid, reflecting the collaborative, multi-faceted nature of the position.
This full-time, benefits-eligible hourly position typically involves a 7-hour shift Monday through Friday within the hours of 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM, with a common schedule from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Starting compensation ranges from $21 to $31 per hour, varying with experience and qualifications, with a notable opportunity for wage growth for long-term employees. The role offers extensive paid time off covering breaks, personal days, sick leave, and holidays, along with comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance, a 401(k) plan with employer matching, paid parental leave, and flexible spending accounts.
The ideal candidate will have prior experience in regulated or institutional kitchen settings, solid knowledge of food safety standards and protocols, and active food manager and handler certifications. Additionally, candidates should be physically able to lift and stand for extended periods and demonstrate strong communication skills and cultural competence, including commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The role occasionally requires direct child supervision and the ability to support classroom activities under the guidance of educational staff. This position offers a unique opportunity to blend a passion for nutrition and food safety with early childhood education, contributing meaningfully to a child's foundational years at an innovative preschool environment.
