With a focus on patient wellness and satisfaction, the organization prioritizes nutritional care as an integral part of overall treatment plans and hospital experience. Known for its dedication to excellence and community health, DCH Health System fosters a supportive and collaborative environment for its employees, encouraging continuous growth and adherence to the highest standards of care and safety.
The role of a Food Service Assistant within the Nutritional Services department at DCH Health System is pivotal in maintaining the smooth operation of food preparation and delivery in a healthcare setting. This position involves assisting in the preparation, assembly, and delivery of meals and snacks to patients, cafeteria customers, and other designated individuals. The Food Service Assistant plays an essential role in ensuring meals are accurately prepared according to menus, recipes, and safety standards, and in maintaining cleanliness and sanitation throughout food service areas. This position may include variable work shifts to meet the needs of the hospital and requires a commitment to following policies and procedures outlined by DCH Health System and Nutritional Services.
Responsibilities in this role include requesting and conserving food and supplies, operating various food service equipment such as choppers and blenders, portioning and assembling meals, serving food trays, and cleaning food service areas. The assistant also maintains production and sanitation records, may perform clerical tasks related to diet orders and menus, and is occasionally responsible for transporting food carts. Adherence to safety, sanitation, and ServSafe guidelines is critical to ensure the well-being of patients and staff. The incumbent must maintain performance, patient and employee satisfaction, and financial standards as assessed in performance evaluations.
This position requires physical stamina as it involves medium work with extensive standing, walking, bending, lifting up to 35 pounds regularly, and occasionally lifting 50 pounds. The environment may be hot and humid, with exposure to temperatures exceeding 90 degrees Fahrenheit. Psychological resilience is also important due to frequent communication with coworkers and hospital staff. The ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend English is necessary, and although ServSafe certification is preferred, it is not mandatory.
This job offers an excellent opportunity to be part of a healthcare team dedicated to supporting patient health through quality nutritional services. Candidates can expect to work in a dynamic and essential service role within a respected health system that values safety, compliance, and patient-centered care.
