The role of a Food Service Worker at DCH Health System is an essential position within the nutritional services team. This role is responsible for assisting in the preparation, assembly, and delivery of meals and snacks to patients, cafeteria patrons, and other customers. The position involves working closely with chefs and sous chefs to follow standardized recipes and menus, ensuring that food quality, portion control, and serving temperatures meet established standards. The Food Service Worker also participates in maintaining clean and sanitary work areas, operating food service equipment safely, and supporting catering events and buffet lines.

This full-time or part-time position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic healthcare environment where excellent customer service, attention to detail, and adherence to health and safety regulations are paramount. The job requires physical stamina, including heavy lifting and extended periods of standing and walking. While previous experience is not mandatory, a ServSafe certification with a minimum score of 75% is preferred and helps ensure compliance with food safety protocols. In this role, employees will support the smooth operation of food service activities by requesting and conserving food supplies, preparing simple food items, assembling trays, and serving meals to patients and staff. They are also responsible for maintaining accurate records related to food production and sanitation, tasting meals for quality assurance, and adhering to all sanitation, ServSafe, and safety requirements. The position may require working variable shifts and involves interaction with patients, visitors, and coworkers, necessitating strong communication skills and a professional demeanor.

Job Duties

  • Request and store food and supplies necessary to perform assigned duties
  • assist in the preparation of a variety of simple food products in accordance with standardized recipes, policies, and procedures
  • operate a variety of food service equipment including choppers, blenders, dish-machines
  • portion food and assemble meals following menus, policies and procedures, and customer requests
  • serve food trays and/or food items to patients/customers
  • clean food service areas and equipment, utensils, etc. as scheduled or assigned
  • maintain temperature, production, cleaning, and other records as assigned and take action as required by policy
