Job Description
DCH Health System is a comprehensive healthcare organization dedicated to providing exceptional patient care and support services. As a leading healthcare provider, DCH Health System operates a wide range of facilities, including hospitals, outpatient centers, and specialized care units, all designed to meet the diverse needs of the community it serves. The organization's commitment to excellence is reflected in its adherence to high standards of safety, quality, and patient satisfaction, making it a trusted name in healthcare. The nutritional services department plays a vital role within this system, ensuring that patients, staff, and visitors receive nutritious and well-prepared meals that support their health and wellbeing.
The role of a Food Service Worker at DCH Health System is an essential position within the nutritional services team. This role is responsible for assisting in the preparation, assembly, and delivery of meals and snacks to patients, cafeteria patrons, and other customers. The position involves working closely with chefs and sous chefs to follow standardized recipes and menus, ensuring that food quality, portion control, and serving temperatures meet established standards. The Food Service Worker also participates in maintaining clean and sanitary work areas, operating food service equipment safely, and supporting catering events and buffet lines.
This full-time or part-time position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic healthcare environment where excellent customer service, attention to detail, and adherence to health and safety regulations are paramount. The job requires physical stamina, including heavy lifting and extended periods of standing and walking. While previous experience is not mandatory, a ServSafe certification with a minimum score of 75% is preferred and helps ensure compliance with food safety protocols. The ideal candidate must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English and be committed to upholding the DCH Behavioral Standards, which emphasize positive relationships, safety, and compliance with all policies and procedures.
In this role, employees will support the smooth operation of food service activities by requesting and conserving food supplies, preparing simple food items, assembling trays, and serving meals to patients and staff. They are also responsible for maintaining accurate records related to food production and sanitation, tasting meals for quality assurance, and adhering to all sanitation, ServSafe, and safety requirements. The position may require working variable shifts and involves interaction with patients, visitors, and coworkers, necessitating strong communication skills and a professional demeanor.
Working at DCH Health System means joining a team dedicated to improving health outcomes through comprehensive patient care services. The Food Service Worker contributes directly to this mission by providing nutritious meals that meet individual patient needs and preferences, supporting recovery and wellness. The role offers an enriching work environment with opportunities for learning and growth within the healthcare nutrition field, making it a valuable entry point for those interested in a career that combines healthcare and food service expertise.
