As a community college, AVC emphasizes equal opportunity, diversity, and equitable consideration for all candidates in their hiring processes, ensuring an inclusive and respectful workplace. The role of Food Service Supervisor at AVC is instrumental in maintaining the efficiency, quality, and safety of the campus cafeteria operations. Under the direction of the Food Service Supervisor, the Food Service Worker performs various duties related to preparing and serving large quantities of food while maintaining cleanliness and sanitation of food service facilities. This position includes supervisory responsibilities, overseeing, training, and directing student workers who assist in food preparation and service. The role demands expertise in food safety, sanitation, and quality control to ensure that all served foods meet the college's standards and safety regulations.

Key responsibilities of the Food Service Worker include preparing grills, reheating and serving food items in an appetizing and sanitary manner, taking food orders, and facilitating transactions as a cashier when necessary. The worker also actively participates in stocking cooking stations, replenishing supplies, and keeping the serving and display counters clean and orderly. Additionally, this role may involve assisting with menu planning, catering services, product ordering, and food receiving operations, especially when filling in for the Food Service Supervisor during their absence.

The Food Service Worker must operate various kitchen equipment safely and effectively, including slicers, choppers, mixers, fryers, ovens, grills, and beverage machines. The position requires physical stamina, including the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand for extended periods, and perform repetitive motions such as bending and the dexterity to handle kitchen tools. Working conditions include exposure to heat, cleaning chemicals, and handling hot foods, which necessitate strict adherence to safety and sanitation protocols.

AVC seeks candidates with a high school diploma or equivalent along with a valid food handler's certificate and at least two years of progressively responsible experience in high-volume food service preparation. The ideal candidate will possess strong supervisory skills, the ability to train and motivate student workers, and proficiency in cashiering and basic math. Excellent oral and written communication skills, along with the ability to understand and follow directions effectively, are essential. Working at AVC offers the opportunity to contribute to a dynamic, student-focused environment while developing professionally within a supportive educational community.
