Job Description

Bezos Academy is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing high-quality, Montessori-inspired preschool education to children in underserved communities. Committed to nurturing every child's full potential, Bezos Academy integrates early childhood education with a focus on equity, inclusion, and comprehensive development. The academy offers a unique blend of academic, social, and emotional learning in a safe, nurturing environment designed to foster a love for learning and achievement from an early age.

Located in Deerfield Beach, Florida, Bezos Academy operates with a mission to transform public education by providing accessible, innovative preschool options that reflect the diverse needs of the communities it serves. Their emphasis on Montessori pedagogy combined with evidence-based teaching methods supports an engaging, child-centered learning experience that respects each child’s individuality and promotes independence, creativity, and critical thinking.

The Food Service Assistant role at Bezos Academy is a vital part of ensuring children receive nutritious and compliant meals that support their health and development. This position handles all aspects of food preparation and service to meet federal (USDA), state, and local childcare regulations, particularly those related to the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). The Food Service Assistant ensures timely meal service to classrooms, maintains stringent food safety standards, manages food inventory and ordering, and supports the overall kitchen operations.

Beyond kitchen responsibilities, this role extends to assisting school staff with various operational and classroom tasks, including inventory checks, laundry, and direct supervision of children when necessary. The Food Service Assistant serves as a collaborative member of the school team, striving continuously to improve processes and enhance the preschool experience for children, staff, and families.

This position is part-time (40 hours per week) and non-exempt, offering consistent shifts Monday through Friday, generally within an 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. window, adjusted according to school and community needs. Compensation ranges from $19 to $28 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience, with a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan with employer match, paid time off, and more.

The Food Service Assistant will need to maintain knowledge and adherence to food safety practices, including active food manager and food handler certifications, and will be responsible for compliance documentation and recordkeeping associated with CACFP and USDA meal patterns. The role calls for strong communication skills, attention to detail, organizational abilities, and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion within the school community.

Joining Bezos Academy as a Food Service Assistant means becoming part of a dedicated team that supports early childhood development through nutrition and care. This opportunity offers meaningful work, professional growth, and the chance to make a positive difference in young children’s lives in a supportive and inclusive educational environment.
