The Food Service Assistant position at PeaceHealth is a vital role within the hospital’s food and catering service operations. This Per Diem/Relief, Variable position offers an hourly wage between $20.06 and $27.36, with the hiring rate dependent on factors such as education, training, and work experience. This role is represented by a collective bargaining agreement and may have multiple openings. The Food Service Assistant will be responsible for preparing, serving, and delivering food while adhering to the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) guidelines to maintain high standards of food safety and sanitation. Duties include assembling, mixing, portioning, and storing food products; operating dish machines and performing thorough cleaning tasks; transporting equipment and waste as directed; possibly running the cafeteria cash register; and maintaining proper set-up and clean-up of assigned stations. This role requires strong customer service skills, effective communication, teamwork, and a thorough understanding of food handling protocols. The position demands physical stamina, including frequent lifting and moving of food supplies, and working near heated surfaces and liquids.

- High school diploma preferred or equivalent
- minimum of 1 year previous work experience preferred
- retail food service experience preferred
- valid Food Handlers Card - Washington
- strong customer service skills

Job Duties
- Prepare, mix, assemble, portion, serve and store food following applicable guidelines
- operate dish machine, wash pots and perform heavy cleaning duties following safety and sanitation guidelines
- transport equipment, food, supplies and trash as directed
- may act as cafeteria cashier running the cash register
- follow guidelines for assigned station set-up and clean-up
- perform other duties as assigned
